#1: Self Service. Author: Andreus84, Location: NorfolkPosted: Tue Sep 06, 2011 5:54 am ---- I am refusing to pay for a garage to service my car this year bearing in mind I can get Oil Filter, Cabin Filter, Fuel Filter, Oil etc for £90.
First Question:
The Fuel Filter is £30+ quid, how often do these need changing? I'm wondering if its something I can leave out.
Last Question (for now):
already answered by a quick search (http://206info.co.uk/Forums/viewtopic/t=3761/highlight=service+counter.html)
Thanks in advance. Last edited by Andreus84 on Tue Sep 06, 2011 5:57 am; edited 1 time in total
#2: Re: Self Service. Author: Seabook, Posted: Tue Sep 06, 2011 5:57 am ---- fuel filter in a black container in the engine bay.
90 quid for a self service is a lot of money.
#3: Re: Self Service. Author: Andreus84, Location: NorfolkPosted: Tue Sep 06, 2011 5:58 am ---- Oil is £30 - Fuel filter alone is £36 (hence looking to leave it out)
#4: Re: Self Service. Author: Seb, Location: Under your bedPosted: Tue Sep 06, 2011 6:01 am ---- Don't worry about the fuel filter, if it doesn't have fuel problems, forget it.
£22 for oil, £7 oil filter, £10 spark plugs, £12 air filter, ~£55 and you're sorted.

Author: Seb, Location: Under your bedPosted: Tue Sep 06, 2011 6:06 am ---- I just pick my stuff up for halfords, admittedly that was trade prices as I've got a trade card, see if someone local to you has one and it'll save you heap loads. Batteries cost me about £35 instead of £60.
#7: Re: Self Service. Author: Seabook, Posted: Tue Sep 06, 2011 6:13 am ---- no need to change glow plug unless you can't start the car in winter.
oil from ebay or www.nielsencdg.co.uk; as cheap as chips, around 22-25 for 5L of oil.
pug dealer oil filter from ebay. normally around 7 quid.
i wash my air filter and just give the cabin filter a blow.
so yeah, under 30 quid for a quick serivice.

#19: Re: Self Service. Author: mjrimmer, Location: davenportPosted: Tue Sep 06, 2011 11:25 am ---- You could always use eurocarparts, normally cheap and they have 25% for web orders for those that don't have a trade account.
Bosch fuel filter £7.02, gutman is a few pence more.
Pollen filter £5.94
Sparkplugs Bosch super £3.00 each
oilfilter £4.14 (Mann, gutman is cheaper)
5 Litres shell helix ultra 5w40 £38
If you need any brake parts theyre 30% off at the moment
These are all the service bits for my Gti 180 so I assume there will be some price difference between models.

#26: Re: Self Service. Author: smiddies, Location: BrightonPosted: Thu Sep 08, 2011 6:05 am ---- The only problem with people doing your service, are you sure they done it right? Are the nuts tighten enough, did they use the right oil seal? after going round and checking after them, may aswell do it yourself just as peace of mind!
