The ESP system controls:

Each individual brake

&

The throttle

Technically the 206 doesn't have a stand alone traction control system, its a marketing gimmick, the ESP system does the traction control function.

ESP, it can't 'control' the throttle or brakes [that's the driver's job] Laughing

It does control the brakes.

I thought that EBFD or whatever does the braking (with the ABS) and not the ESP traction control

EBFD ( Electronic Brake Force Distribution ) just replaces the rear brake compensator valve.

Cars with EBFD dont have the mechanical rear brake compensator valve fitted as the EBFD is built in to the ABS hydraulic modulator under the bonnet.

ESP on the other hand controls all 4 individual brakes & also the throttle.

The ESP controls both the throttle and the brakes, if your in a straight line and it detects wheelspin then it will kill the power, no need for brakes. On the other hand if it detects oversteer it will apply brakes to which ever wheel(s) is needed to correct the "manouver". I've experienced this in my mates Focus ST and i'm impressed with it, yes it takes away the thrill of driving but its also a safe way of finding the limit of your car!

B. Need to accelerate quickly.

EBA = Emergency Brake Assist

I saw a Fifth gear test of the new Focus & Tiff was moaning about not being able to turn the ESP fully off Laughing

Ive driven 2 different cars with ESP fitted.

Mk 5 Golf = brilliant ESP system, you can have fun.

Astra mk 5 = crap ESP system, its far to lazy to cut in & lets the car get seriously out of shape before it wakes up & tries to help out.
