#6: Re: spare wheel cage Author: kakaruto, Location: Mansfield NottinghamPosted: Thu Sep 15, 2011 2:36 pm ---- sorry to hi jack this thread but i thought i would ask here instead of making another thread as it is virtually on the same topic.
basically the bolt you twist to bring the cage up seems to be seized so i can not raise the cage up with the spare wheel, is there any way of releasing this seized up bolt? or do i have to grind the f****r off and replace it? and where can i buy a replacement bolt for it?.

i have heard that they can refuse to tow you if they discovered you remove the spare tyre.
not sure if that is true or not.

Besides its the same guy thats came out to me 2 or 3 times now so he kinda knows me if it really came down to it i could just call a family member to bring me the wheel, on long trips id stick it in the boot

yes alot of recovery companies require you to carry a legal and roadworthy spare tire
A lot of cars don't come with Spare Wheels now
#17: Re: spare wheel cage Author: NorthantsBen, Location: Raunds, NorthamptonshirePosted: Thu Sep 15, 2011 5:10 pm ---- Yer my next doors beemer don't come with one,
Just a can of tyre weld in a slot in the boot lol
#18: Re: spare wheel cage Author: -Dave-, Location: North ManchesterPosted: Thu Sep 15, 2011 5:23 pm ---- Well mine's coming off as soon as I can be arsed removing it. And if Green Flag won't recover me because I don't have a spare Wheel it's them that will lose out on the money I pay to cover both my Vehicle's. Simple as that.
#19: Re: spare wheel cage Author: NorthantsBen, Location: Raunds, NorthamptonshirePosted: Thu Sep 15, 2011 5:39 pm ---- I never had one and got towed few times with no
Problems, twice was with f'd wheel so don't worry about lol
#20: Re: spare wheel cage Author: Rob2859, Location: HalifaxPosted: Thu Sep 15, 2011 6:47 pm ---- I took mine out because even when tight it would deploy the spare wheel into the middle of the road when going over a speed bump which could be an inconvenience.

Nothing wrong with the design, its idiots not greasing the bolt up that causes the issuse.
3 Peugeot's ive had with this design of spare cage & never had an issue with it.

Have you checked your T&C's or phoned them yet? Wouldn't take anything said on this forum as gospel.

each company is different, im with auto national rescue and its in there t&c's.....how ever they just get the closest recovery people to come out to you, so the chances of them actually checking would be very slim
