my 306 1.4 tu has done 130k miles and is still going strong, mate of mines tu engine has done over 200k and still drives like nearly new, just make sure you service it regulary

As above, you know your engine better than jim bob gypo on ebay's engine

I think it looks better on the records to keep an original engine that runs in sync with the car's mileage. I change my oil every 5k miles in the hopes it will prolong the engine life, maybe you could try that too

Mines is a 1.1 and just hit 80k yesterday, my mate also has a 1.1, identical to mine (copying b*****d) and has done 117k and still runs with no problems..

Few questions

1. If you know the previous owner why not ask them if its been looked after
*thats me, yes it has, that engine is a beaut for a 1.1, 1st point of call, service it*

2. If you felt 80k was a large amount of miles, why did you buy the car?
*and you can't even say for the looks as half the things you want to change*

3. Why change for a 1.1 engine if your going to change the engine, i'd go GTi and i nearly did

The cost for the engine and labour will probably total the cost of your car. I'm coming up to 100k now and no sign of engine defects Smile

A well maintained 81k will be better than a mistreated 40k one...

my old vauxhall corsa 1.2 went for 148k with 60k was me just ragging it but i always serviced it on time and premium oil
