I think it looks better on the records to keep an original engine that runs in sync with the car's mileage. I change my oil every 5k miles in the hopes it will prolong the engine life, maybe you could try that too

#20: Re: engine swap question Author: PugJH, Location: NorthantsPosted: Mon Sep 19, 2011 4:42 am ---- Few questions
1. If you know the previous owner why not ask them if its been looked after
*thats me, yes it has, that engine is a beaut for a 1.1, 1st point of call, service it*
2. If you felt 80k was a large amount of miles, why did you buy the car?
*and you can't even say for the looks as half the things you want to change*
3. Why change for a 1.1 engine if your going to change the engine, i'd go GTi and i nearly did
#21: Re: engine swap question Author: karimali831, Location: EnglandPosted: Mon Sep 19, 2011 5:14 am ---- The cost for the engine and labour will probably total the cost of your car. I'm coming up to 100k now and no sign of engine defects
#22: Re: engine swap question Author: Ali_H, Location: Chichester, SussexPosted: Mon Sep 19, 2011 6:00 am ---- A well maintained 81k will be better than a mistreated 40k one...
#23: Re: engine swap question Author: LilLew, Location: PlymouthPosted: Mon Sep 19, 2011 6:32 am ---- my old vauxhall corsa 1.2 went for 148k with 60k was me just ragging it but i always serviced it on time and premium oil
