#1: New Central Locking Key Questions Author: SteDuval1985, Location: LancashirePosted: Mon Sep 19, 2011 7:53 am ---- My current 206 (06 plate) only came with the spare key; so I emailed my local Pug dealer to see how much a new central locking key would cost and they said the following:
"The cost of the key remote is £106.48 inc VAT, with this item we can use the key blade you already have, if this blade is not in good working order a new blade would be £15.07 inc VAT.
This new key would also need to be programmed into the vehicle, our service department charge £40.80 inc VAT."
I thought this was pricey so I looked on eBay and decided to buy this:
I went to a local locksmiths today to see if they could programme the remote to my car but they told me the blade is for another model (207 or 307), therefore I would need to buy a new remote because the remote has been programmed to those models. I now understand that the blades are different, but does it matter if the remote has come from another model? I thought they'd be pretty much standard remotes for all models.
The locksmiths said if I can get a new remote they'll do the blade and programming for far less than Pug are charging. So I went to Pug to get a new remote (everything but the blade) and told them I'd be getting it programmed elsewhere and swapping the blades over my current key and they've charged me £55.92 (almost half the cost they quoted me in the email). Were they trying to skank me in the email?

You might be better speaking to Lee and seeing if he can do the whole lot. He's cheaper than the dealer and knows his stuff.

From what the guy at Pug said, what I've paid for is everything (the remote casing with chip and circuit) but a new blade.
