#1: Central Display Not Working Author: Chalky, Location: United KingdomPosted: Tue Sep 20, 2011 12:18 pm ---- Hello everyone,
I've had a problem with the central display in my Peugeot (the one showing time and radio station etc.) for some time now. The problem is that it doesn't blank, as if turned off. However, it will display if I press on the screen...
This problem started when I previously had a radio problem, and as a result removed the plastic mounting around the display unit, and since I put the mounting back on this problem has been evident.
Like I say I'm a bit confused because if I press lightly on the screen it will display, as if it were working normally (but only while I have my finger pressed on it).
Any ideas?
Thanks
Chalky

#3: Re: Central Display Not Working Author: muzzy78, Location: LeicesterPosted: Tue Sep 20, 2011 12:25 pm ---- Had this problem a while back and it was a loose connection
#4: Re: Central Display Not Working Author: Chalky, Location: United KingdomPosted: Tue Sep 20, 2011 12:28 pm ---- Cheers for responses guys.
How did you go about fixing it Muzzy?
#5: Re: Central Display Not Working Author: kit325, Location: LondonPosted: Tue Sep 20, 2011 2:22 pm ---- need soldering on internal connection circuit, there's should be a guidance on HOW TO section.
#6: Re: Central Display Not Working Author: Chalky, Location: United KingdomPosted: Sun Oct 02, 2011 3:25 am ---- Hi everyone,
I'm going to have a crack at this this weekend. If the worse should happen (i.e. it goes tits up), would a spare display unit (plenty being sold on eBay) work as a replacement?
Cheers

What sorta display is it?
#8: Re: Central Display Not Working Author: Chalky, Location: United KingdomPosted: Sun Oct 02, 2011 4:43 am ---- Hi Lee,
It's the 'PPT30'.
#9: Re: Central Display Not Working Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Sun Oct 02, 2011 4:46 am ---- That's just the connector on a non-plexed MFD
Is it the single or multi-line one?
#10: Re: Central Display Not Working Author: Chalky, Location: United KingdomPosted: Sun Oct 02, 2011 5:18 am ---- There is only one connection into the device, but multiple wires run into that connection (bundled together).
#11: Re: Central Display Not Working Author: kit325, Location: LondonPosted: Sun Oct 02, 2011 5:44 am ---- If it is the backlight problem, u will need to take it apart to do some soldering on the internal circuit board connection. Beware of the thin layer ribbon connection between the liquid display and the internal circuit board when u take apart the display or u will ending up with some dead pixel if u damage it. There's is a how to instuction in the forum u can use to fix it.
Just where about u in UK, if u in london i might able to give u a hand on this.

#14: Re: Central Display Not Working Author: Chalky, Location: United KingdomPosted: Sun Oct 02, 2011 5:57 am ---- NR4 Lee. :).
Just taken display apart, the pin isn't broken...still attached to the circuit board.
Any ideas?
Seems strange though as I have the same issue as others where the display only shows if I press down on it.
#15: Re: Central Display Not Working Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Sun Oct 02, 2011 6:02 am ---- Mutli-line one then. Rare and expensive to find a decent second hand one.
Prone to failing.
If you need to press the screen, it sounds like the ribbon has come loose and you are having to press it to make the connection
