I don't know if the 1.4 is the same as the 1.6 but it's quite a clever little engine. Throttle butterfly is only used on start up - after that the valve lift is used to control the air flow into the engine. The 1.6 has VVT too. The water pump disengages when its not needed. There's no cambelt to snap either - just a chain to rattle.

yeah thats right mine is the same , has a chain for camblet and is valve lift think they are the same but the 1.6 is 120bhp mines 95bhp.
Least i dont need to worry bout cambelt snapping lol.
