#1: Lukesaunders91's GTI 180 Project (UPDATE: 04/05/12) Author: L5_UKS, Location: West Midlands PostPosted: Sun Sep 25, 2011 11:49 am

Hiii Smile

As I’ve owned my new car for about 5/6 months now I thought I should put up a project thread :D, So here it is Smile

Ill start of with the car I had before, It was a 307 1.4 that caused me a lot of headaches! So after the gearbox went then got that fixed a month after the cam belt snapped! Sad only had 45k on it aswell, But as it was my first car I guess I could say I could have treated it kinder however lesson learned so now with my new car she is my pride and joy Smile

Here’s my old 307, now in my local scrapyard! Sad

So here it is 206 Gti 180! Smile here’s a picture afew days after buying it.

Soon after I removed the silver alloys and fitted the gloss black ones Smile it then looked like this.

After a couple of months I got bored of the standard exhaust and wanted something with abit more rawrrr! So after a lot of people recommending the janspeed exhaust on the 180 I went for it :), it then looked like this and in my opinion it is one of the best looking exhausts for the 206

Then I went into sensible mode, When I brought the car it had the common clutch judder so ended up taking it to Kyle (gti180boy) to fit a new clutch and check the car over for me.

New clutch…. Smile

He then found afew other bits gone on it for example the droplinks wishbone & top engine mount, heres what the engine mount looked like it was completely broken off

So after that the car was driving a lot nicer and smoother Smile

But then I got the modding bug so more Razz

I firstly removed the rear tints as I felt they just made the car look over chavy and made the car look weird, Also the same day my Heko wind deflectors arrived in the post so I also fitted them.

I then changed my badge from silver to gloss black to match my alloys ?

But then came the big mod……lowering :), I had been looking for a set of coilovers for awhile and along came these

Spax RSX Coilovers

Here afew pictures of them after they was fitted Smile

I then made a trip down to the DVLA to get my private plate registered to my car and to tax my car ( £260 for 12 months tax Surprised )

Afew days later I received these in the post Very Happy

Metal Pressed Plates

So I wasted no time and got straight on to fitting them Smile

Soo off with the old…

And in with the new…

Got afew more bits planned for it but ill keep them quite for now Smile

Let me know what you think guys Smile

Luke.

Cheers buddy Very Happy

If your not going to be modding it too much I'd say go anthracite grey.

I was tempted to change my colour to grey but now I've added more black bits too it I'm glad I kept them black Smile

However I've got a spare set of vortex's that I'm getting done in anthracite just as winter/spares Very Happy

Im planning on doing the front grill gloss black but not sure if i want the wheels the same or just a dark anthracite perhaps.

That looks very nice, for me the wheels would be better in anthracite but agree the gloss black should match the wheels. I just have this thing with the wheels being shinier than the tyres Smile

February Update:

Got my hands on some Team Dynamic Pro Race 1.2 in white to be used as track/spare alloys, However after fitting them I fell in love and have since been left on the car Smile

However the tyres on them were way past the legal limit, so next up was 4 new tyres after fitting Toyo Proxes T1R'S to my other wheels (vortex's) I was impressed with them so decided to go with the same on these wheels Smile

Next up was giving the inside of the alloys a good clean as they were pretty dirty.

Before & After

Finished

Last of all I got myself a Cupra R splitter, So wasted no time fitting it Very Happy

Comments welcome

Luke.

Hmm yeah I know what you mean, Im changing my side indicators back to clear, but I think I'm going to leave the fogs and headlights as they are, Then white powder-coated petrol cap and white front badge.

Hopefully that will help the wheels blend in abit more. Smile

There are loads of places that do pressed plates, However you need to make sure they have the BSAU145d code printed on them with the makers name and post code, else the police can give you a fine, some makers dont make them correctly they have to still be relfective and not everyones are so just watch out on that. Smile

I brought mine from Dubmeister I had no problem with them they send the plates out next day delivery.

Are you using stock rubbers or some aftermarkets for the Janspeed because mine has never sat right closest I got was with a Powerflex one but it was wrong fitment so had to be changed.

Cheers

There just the standard rubbers mate, However a little birdy told me that the 106 Gti rubbers will do the best job and make it fit nice and close to the bumper, I'll be changing mine soon because it does sag a little.

However they will take abit of forcing on and some washing up liquid. Smile

Just some small updates;

Firstly I got bored of the boring and pretty rubbish standard orange bulbs, So decided to fit my HID's back in. :), I took them out as it was messing with my ECU before, but now hopefully I've positioned the ballast out the way so it wont interfere Smile

50/50

Finished result Smile

Secondly I replaced my head unit with an alpine one looks alot smarter than my old one IMO Smile

In the next few weeks Ill hopefully be replacing my front brakes with the 406 Brembo's also fitting a decat pipe so watch this space Wink

Luke.

My rival Wink

How is the ride with the 16" Team Dynamics compared to the 17" Vortex? Is the amount of grip the same? Accelerate faster with 16" or 17"? From the thread I assume that you have the same sort of tyres on both sets

@Matty: Yep that video is mine ha, thought id do a cheeky one afew months ago so people could see how they sounded Smile

@Ridt: Splitter was brought from somebody on here, However ebay do sell them but are quite expensive now, you could try your local seat dealer? Over here the seat dealerships have bumped up the price of them because they know non seat people are after them for there cars.

Also the headunit is a alpine x100

@Icetto: They were a lot better on handling feel and pretty much everything on the 16" Smile

I reckon the 180 should have come out with lightweight 16" from the factory.

Nissan VVL, B16b Vtec and Run X RSi are killing me off the line and they all have 15" rims
