#1: 1.4 Hdi rear ABS drum nightmare Author: bsmotorsport, Location: ponte carloPosted: Mon Sep 26, 2011 4:14 am ---- Hoping someone may have been in the same situation as me on this one. The back end was getting noisy (car not me) so I ordered up new drums, shoes and bearings from my local parts guy. Told him it was ABS but seemingly this is the root of my problems. Changed everything over and car sounds much better but ABS light goes out after setting off but comes back on after about 10 seconds and stays on. I took the drums off and compared them to the old. The old drums had small circlular 'thing' pressed on the the back. Its not a reluctor ring like you get on the fronts, it looks like a bearing seal just pressed on to the back. Im assuming this is the pickup for the ABS? They got slightly damaged levering them off to put on my new drums so Im again assuming theyre knackered. Question is, what now? Is this definately the ABS pickup? Ive had the reg put in the pug oracle thing and it states rear drums with magnetic target?? Is the target in the bearing ala 307 or is it this mysterious ring. If anyone knows so I can order the correct parts that would be great.
thanks
Steve

ABS light came on a few months ago, I ignored it as thought I would sort it nearer MOT time. That time is now. Took it to a testers.. showed rear abs sensor offside as offender.. bought a new sensor, fitted it, still showed ABS light as on. Took the drum apart and found that there was no notches to trigger the abs sensor... thought this weird so compared it to the other side and the drums are different though neither has the notches....
Can anyone shed light on what the drum should look like? Cant find pics on net...
Update: 16.11.11 the brake drums ARE different. see photo..
the older drum has a sensor on it and the newer drum does not look like it has a sensor on it, but maybe it is more discreet? Can anyone shed any light on this?
It is the newer drum which is showing up on abd testing as the fault.. so the question is .
Does the fault lie with the abs sensor or with this drum?
