#1: 2002 206 1.4 HDi Accelerating Problems... Author: SeamusBurkill, Location: Darlington PostPosted: Thu Oct 06, 2011 2:35 am
    ----
Hi guys, I've just bought a 206, here's the specs:

2002
114,000 miles
4 owners
12 months tax and test
HPI clear with 2 keys and original books etc.
£780

It drove perfectly on the test drive pulling well through every gear but now i've got it home it seems to be lacking in power. Its almost as if the turbo isn't helping it along and the revs wont go any higher than 3.5-4k. Its also a little lump on idle.

No engine lights are on. Here's a video of acceleration on full power:

Any help is greatly appriciated. Sam Wink

It's in limp mode. Ecu is detecting an error in a major sensor (normally two because its French). Needs fault code reading

i had the same problem last year, all it was was the air intake at the back of the engine had come off, so it was sucking in air from the back which was bypassing the maf sensor and triggering the fault

So how come the engine light didn't light? Does it come on with the ignition on before you start the engine? Maybe blown bulb.

It should come on if it's in limp mode.
2002 should be a SMD and shouldn't really blow, so it's either been removed or taped up.

Right people, i've had the machine out tonight and i can confirm there are no faults at all and the engine light bulb is fully functioning.

Does anyone have any ideas where I should start?

Brakes binding on?

Poor compression?

Timing belt slipped?

What are the two lights on?

The bit that is confusing me... How high do you want the revs to go? You are nearly on the redline on that first change up, power will drop off before that point on a 206 derv.. Its a diesel.

IMO opinion your changing to high to get the full turbo. On the 2.0HDi the turbo kicks in at 1900rpm. Your changes only drop it to 3200rpm.

I can't hear or see anything wrong on that video.

It also needs a service. Wink

i agree the power curve of a derv is quite limited and the power comes in around 2k and will give best torque till about 3.5k past that your on a downward slide of the curve

Pushing it too hard in the wrong part of the powerband ease off and change up sooner your engine will thank you by lasting longer Idea

Yeah, reading the above and considering 3 other factors:

- Needs a service
- Airbag warning lights on
- "bargain" price for its age/mileage

I'd say the car has been neglected a little. Did you take it for a test drive, and were the airbag lights on then? And did you ask about the service history? If you really want to keep it, then I'd do a service, then a compression check and a boost check.

Totally agree with the service, im going to go down that route first then see where i end up.

Being my first derv im not sure what applies in the service, obviously main componants in a petrol is spark plugs, oil and filter. Whats the equivalant for a diesel? Thanks people!
