Strange noise and feeling from the back suspension

#1: Strange noise and feeling from the back suspension Author: Icetto, Location: Cape Town PostPosted: Wed Oct 12, 2011 6:43 am

I was dredding this but looks like it's finally here. My 1st problem with my 180 Sad

Over the last 2 months I did some long distance travel with my car. Coming home after one trip my car made very bad squeaking sounds that comes particulary from the left rear in good weather. When it rained the noise went away. I thought perhaps it just needed some lubrication on some parts and my mechanic agreed.

So lubrication went on the squeaking went away but something just felt odd. Now after a weeks I can't stand it anymore. On a good road I can still push my car fast through corners but I can't stand the noise and feeling as I go through small dips and bumps.

The sound and feeling are like this:

It sounds like there are some wooden planks in my boot and each time I go over a bump those wooden planks knock against each other. Then it also feels like the front suspension is solid and comfy going over bumps but the rear suspension feels like it's bounching up in the air and it feels light.

I have BC coilovers and dampers and the damper settings are fairly soft.

Any ideas to what the problem is and possible sollution please.

Thanks

Knackered rear shocks maybe or worst case scenario knackered rear beam.

Could worn bushes cause that noise?

if the back feels solid as a rock, and the shocks are ok, quite possibly the rear beam.. had the same on one of my old 205 gti's, it was that solid the back end used to bounce on nasty bumps..

Already did that but I'm not a Peugeot expert so I don't know what exactly to look for. Plus jacking it up won't really help. Need to get it on a ramp to get a better look. 2 week waiting list at Peugeot Dealerships. 3 weeks until next track day Sad

take it to a garage with a ramp then? assuming there is one where you are

It could take it to some empty garage and the idiots in this country that know nothing about a Peugeot can have a look and try and fix. Not gonna take that chance. My car only goes to the few Peugeot specialists in Cape Towns so waiting list is long.

Was hoping I can get some ideas of what to look for that if there is indeed an opening (even for just a few hours) then I can take my car and point them to what to look at 1st. I really need to have my car 100% for next track day at end of the month

you don't have to be a Peugeot expert to check your car for worn bushes, wheel bearings,or suspension parts.you've been advised to jack the thing up and have a gander.as for waiting 2 weeks for Peugeot to mug you up there must be someone who could have a look for you.its really not rocket science.
