#1: Have to wait before starting Author: haggis120, Location: scotland PostPosted: Tue Oct 18, 2011 6:37 pm

Hi, I have a problem that has just started. I have to turn ignition on and wait till dash lights go out air bag etc.. before I can start the engine.
If I try to start it before it will not start and then I have to leave it for five or ten minutes as it will not start even if I wait till the lights go out.
Any ideas would be great. thanks

It's a 9 year old derv.. Let it warm it's plugs. If it struggles to start, let it warm them again.

I can understand that but why do I have to leave it for 5 to 10 mins until I try again?

Doubt its glow plugs, you wouldnt be using them at this temperature. Can you hear the engine priming ok?

I normally just wait until the stop light and abs lights etc turn off anyway, its better to let it prime itself!

When you say "not start" does the engine turn over at normal starting speed but not fire; or does it turn over slowly or not at all? Or some other issue?
