#1: Have to wait before starting Author: haggis120, Location: scotlandPosted: Tue Oct 18, 2011 6:37 pm ---- Hi, I have a problem that has just started. I have to turn ignition on and wait till dash lights go out air bag etc.. before I can start the engine.
If I try to start it before it will not start and then I have to leave it for five or ten minutes as it will not start even if I wait till the lights go out.
Any ideas would be great. thanks

#10: Re: Have to wait before starting Author: MRyan89, Location: Home: Fleet, Hampshire, Uni: Portsmouth!Posted: Wed Oct 19, 2011 2:36 am ---- I normally just wait until the stop light and abs lights etc turn off anyway, its better to let it prime itself!
#11: Re: Have to wait before starting Author: DanPug206, Location: BirminghamPosted: Wed Oct 19, 2011 4:42 am ---- I always let my lights go out before attempting a start up, takes 5 seconds then your off.

When you say "not start" does the engine turn over at normal starting speed but not fire; or does it turn over slowly or not at all? Or some other issue?

Steve206, what does the engine priming sound like?
This has just started it didnt matter weather I left the lights to go out or not.
#16: Re: Have to wait before starting Author: paul_c, Location: UKPosted: Wed Oct 19, 2011 10:59 am ---- Sounds like dodgy fuel pump or pipework to me. When was the fuel filter last changed, and was a genuine part or decent aftermarket, or cheap filter used?
#17: Re: Have to wait before starting Author: haggis120, Location: scotlandPosted: Wed Oct 19, 2011 12:35 pm ---- I have 1500 miles till my next service and the filter is due to be changed. Last one was dealer fitted.
#18: Re: Have to wait before starting Author: paul_c, Location: UKPosted: Wed Oct 19, 2011 12:38 pm ---- Worth a good look at it, and the fuel pipework. Its possible for rubber low pressure lines to crack, and/or the top of a fuel filter to rust, this causes small holes and air is drawn in which causes misfires and/or poor or non starting. With 1500 miles to go, it would probably be worthwhile changing the fuel filter early - other things such as a blockage in it, or excessive water in the diesel, can cause non starting or running too. I don't suppose you ever let the fuel tank run really low, at any stage? This can draw debris into the fuel system.
Also, how many miles has the car done?
#19: Re: Have to wait before starting Author: haggis120, Location: scotlandPosted: Wed Oct 19, 2011 12:42 pm ---- Thats a good idea I will go and service the car then see what happens. It has done 107000 miles.
