ouch! after fitting the new starter motor you could just try welding up the hole as well lol!

I've heard a story where a tractor threw a rod, and managed to put a hole in the block both sides of the engine. The driver got out, looked at it and could see daylight through the engine.....

My brother has this happen on a 306 diesel
He managed to drive it the 5 miles home,granted it made a hell of a noise though

Its the old scenario...... the GTi suffers from weak rods..... hence you need forged rods before you increase the power

And can be quite scary if it happen's on the motorway at 70mph. I remember it quite well when it happened to me because I did a unexpected poo that day and it wasn't even me driving Laughing

The engine should be able to be driven forever at the rev limit though.

i think someone just forget engine has a dipstick and need some oil to run properly

Its the weakest link... miss a gear change and this can happen only too easily

No. The car was full ok oil, and I have s**t loads of receipts for service history.

The timing belt was only changed about 10k ago too

The old DHY conrod failure issue, common problem with a certain batch of 1.9 turbo diesel DHY lumps fitted to 306 & Xsara's Wink
