#1: What to tell the Tinkerer (Mechanic) Author: bongoman, Location: samsaraPosted: Tue Oct 25, 2011 12:43 am ---- Hi All,
Long time lurker and first time poster.
I have a 206, 1.6 16V (2003)
I only bought it a few months ago under the presumption that it would be a stress free little runabout. Ha! It has had all the usual playups like non-starting etc.
Then this morning I got a shock when it stalled, stopped running on the freeway, fark me that was scary.
It is on its way to the local peugeot service centre now.
I am need to speak to the service manager in a moment but I don't want to get taken for a ride if the diagnostics show up 1001 things needs fixing. I only need a well running buzzbox, not a racing machine.
Can you guys give me an idea/list of the main areas that would need urgent repair past sparks/leads. What about this Coil Unit thingy? is that expensive to get replaced? The BCU unit? I really had no idea that this little car had so many areas where the electronics could stuff it up.
Many thanks in advance.
Dan

I doubt they'll be the same selection of independant garages in Sri Lanka as there is in the UK.

Google "206 cutting out problem". Its not uncommon, there should probably have been a recall related to this, but Peugeot never found the cause (or at least never admitted to it). An old version of this site used to have an entire sub-section of the forums dedicated to this one problem.

Total b******s, Peugeot fixed the 206 cutting out issue 5+ years ago.

#9: Re: What to tell the Tinkerer (Mechanic) Author: bongoman, Location: samsaraPosted: Tue Oct 25, 2011 2:15 am ---- I'm in a place nearly as limited in options as Sri Lanka, I'm in Dubai.
I've taken it to a mate who is a mechanic, but he doesnt have the diagnostic gear. So the official dealer is next best bet, they are charging me £15 to run it. They are also the only parts supplier, so hopefully the parts will be cheaper than through other garages.
Seems the Cutting out issue was even covered on BBC Watchdog!

They did? Never heard about a fix before.

? Are you saying changing the Coil Rack unit is a possible fix?
and it is expensive?
Is it possible to get a 2nd unit? or need to be new?
I am also reading about getting the ECU tested and possible renewed not replaced? is that a good idea?

Can you point me to the solution?? I'd really like to know what is causing this.

Peugeot main dealer should have the technical documents on the official fixes.

Here is a list of recalls for the 206. R/2004/087 might be the recall for this problem.
Not everyone takes their cars back for recalls, some have the "it's not happening to me" attitude. Peugeot should have a list of vehicles which were repaired under the recall, and if yours hasn't been, then they should still do the fix for free

Thanks for that mate, good to be able to research known faults.
The problem for me is that I am in Dubai and those type of recalls and consumer protection is zero. But have to take the good with the bad.
Tinkerer called me back and thinks it is a fuel pump, is costing £170 for new pump, install labor and diagnostic. I think that is reasonable?
