I dont want to fork out for a re gas incase that dont fix it any ideas
Also is it worth taking of and putting a smaller belt on would there be much power gain or is best just left

Most of the time it's because it's run out of gas. So when you push the button nothing happens to stop the compressor from breaking

Also, as above, get it checked out. Re-gassing air con should be done regularly anyway, and the fault could be something as simple as a blown fuse.
