What he has failed to mention is that the cars battery was not disconnected/connected correctly and the car may have a BSI issue? We have checked fuses and believe I can hear relays clicking etc. We have tried the software reboot but didnt work although I am going to try again once the weather gets a bit warmer later today. I do have an OBDII scanner which I need to get from my son in law, do you think this will highlight what is causing the electrical issues? Thanks for your help in advance....frustrated dad!!

In the plug on the loom find the +12V and ground going into the switch as well as the two wires going out to the window, and then jumper the incoming to the outgoing. Depending on which way around the +12 and ground are connected that should move the window up or down... The circuit diagrams in the Maintenance Howto forum should be helpful to find the right pins.
That should get the window up for the short term.
Then disassemble and clean the switch. Water, isopropyl alcohol/water mix. Last rinse I'd use pure alcohol for faster avaporation/drying. Or source a new switch.

That's effectively what I describe, but with the lump of the switch out of the way. If you've got enough slack in the loom to easily get at the back of the connector while attached to the switch, it can be done on the backside of the connector as well.
It's also two sets of terminals, incoming ground to outgoing1 and incoming +12 to outgoig2, since the wires to the window motor shift polarity depend which way the window is to move, none of them have either constan +12 or constant ground.
You can do effectively the same by running loose wires from a battery and poke the motor terminals directly, out in the door.
