Quoting yourself?
Anyway, it's not traction control, but surely there is some sort of traction control in it?
If there's very little grip on the road, my ESP kicks in if i give it a tad too much throttle, thereby preventing the driving wheels to spin. That, in my eyes, is pretty much traction control.
I know ESP also does other things, but my point is that it also contains traction control, at least to a certain extent?
#18: Re: what does my car have? Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Tue Nov 15, 2011 1:27 am ---- Your car will have ESP and traction control. As far as I know you need an electronic throttle body to have traction control on a 206 - so that's 180, later 138 GTis and the XSi too. All XSi's (I think) came with a motorised TB but that doesn't mean it has traction control.
The traction control is part of the ESP control. No point in trying to control a spin if the driver still has the ability to give it full throttle.

Ah, ofcourse. Thanks! That explains atleast why mine has it, since it's basically a XSi "with more stuff in it" lol.

I think they may work in the same way (affecting the throttle), but it's not the same. TC is part of the ESP, but ESP also does other things.
I think it uses some sort of stability-sensors or something (looking at the name hehe). But that's just guessing to be honest, i don't know 100% how they work.
I tested my ESP once, when i went to Sturup Raceway in Sweden. My ESP kicked in sooner than i would have expected TC to do so.
If you are going near the limit of how fast you can go around a corner, the ESP will react and cut the throttle (slowly to prevent lift-off oversteer, but fast enough to slow you down) to prevent you from reaching that limit.
In my experience, TC will kick in when you hit that limit, perhaps even first when going slightly over it and start skidding, depending on how aggresive the TC is.
#22: Re: what does my car have? Author: Ghosty, Location: WiltshirePosted: Tue Nov 15, 2011 4:38 am ---- my GTi HDi has ESP, there's a button on the right of the steering wheel, next to the passanger airbag de-activate, which is next to the electronic headlight adjuster, that turns both ESP and ASR off.
What is ASR ???
as for a 1.1 having ESP, i very much think not, as i just said look for the button that will tell you if you have it.

You don't need traction control, just tell the hamsters to run slower

#25: Re: what does my car have? Author: Ape, Location: Clipping the Apex!Posted: Tue Nov 15, 2011 9:00 am ---- Traction Control -
Cuts power to the engine to prevent wheelspin / tramping
Electronic Stability Programme -
Will cut power to the engine, and can brake individual wheels to correct / stabilise the car.
Electronic Brake Force Distribution-
Can brake individual wheels to correct / stabilise the car depending on loadings (effectively an electronic brake bias valve controlled by the ABS unit).
That's pretty much how they operate in lamens terms. Last edited by Ape on Tue Nov 15, 2011 9:12 am; edited 1 time in total
#26: Re: what does my car have? Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Tue Nov 15, 2011 9:08 am ---- ASR = traction control.
ESP = Electronic stability program.
2 different systems that do 2 different jobs BUT share the same ABS hydraulic modulator & can work together or on there own.
Ape: EBD only works on the rear axle, its just an electronic version of the old rear brake compensator load valve that unit that always rusts up & fails the mot on older 206's Last edited by MrBSI on Tue Nov 15, 2011 9:11 am; edited 1 time in total

A 2003 Look 1.1 will only have ABS if someone ticked the option box when the car was originally ordered, it wasnt standard fitment.
No chance of traction control on a 206 TU1.

I din't imagine it was such a high-tech thing 206's came with.
Retrofit!

Needs cabin wiring loom as the yaw sensor lives under carpet below left hand seat, replace the ABS unit with the ESP version, ESP version of master cylinder, com 2000 with ESP steering angle sensor, esp off switch for dash, BSI configuration update for a start.

No, I was kidding as I imagined it would be cheaper to get a car with it as standard.

You'll still be able to buy new cars without ESP, for now, it's only new models that'll need ESP as standard to gain 'type approval'. ESP will become compulsory in all new cars from October 31, 2014.
