#1: Knocking from rear Author: JonnyGTI, Location: AirdriePosted: Tue Nov 22, 2011 9:04 am ---- Been told this could be my rear axle causing this. Would replacing the bushes resolve this and if I can replace them would do they need to be pressed in and pressed out?

Normally by the time you notice the bearings want replacing on the rear axle its beyond repair as the stubs get damaged / marked by the defective bearings.
Fitting new bearings to a damaged axle is a waste of time as they wont last very long.
By all means strip it apart but be ready to get another rear beam.

Now probably a silly thing to ask but should I just change the bearings on the new/2nd hand axle while it's off the car
