Anything to knock off the price?

#1: Anything to knock off the price? Author: JustAndy, Location: york PostPosted: Thu Nov 24, 2011 9:25 am
    ----
Im looking at getting a GTI (not the 180) and i went to have another look today and noticed that the drivers side brake disk needs replacing, there's a few little dents above the drivers side door, the passenger door handle needs respraying completely (all the lacquer has come off) the passenger wing mirror needs respraying because its really badly chipped, both doors have had really bad touch ups with a colour match thing thats like a brown instead of the orangey colour the car is and also the same on both bumpers.
So the car is advertised for £1490 and was wondering if you think i could get anything knocked off the price for any of that?
Sorry for the essay Smile

The year might help as if tht was for a 2006 gti it would be good but if it was for a 1999 i would knock him down

Bear in mind it's a USED CAR! So dont mention anything you've spotted simply just barter with him. Settling on buying the car for 10% less than asking is usually acceptable.

I managed to knock 25% off mine though Very Happy 306 rallye up for sale for @2495 and bought for £1950 lol.

Sorry guys, i went for a test drive just after i posted. Its a 2000 plate with 89k on the clocks. Tax and MOT are april 2012. Hasnt got the service book but its god all the reciepts from the services and the mileage checks out with the paperwork. I was talking too him and said that he would take my car p/x (fiat punto mk2) then would want £600. My car trades in for £800 so he would be selling it for £1300. The car mechanically is really good, no strange noises or bangs or anything like that. I think thats a fairly good deal IMO but this is only the second car ive bought

So basically your car & £900? You should have pushed to split the difference (at least) of the £800 trade in price of your punto.

Oops i meant to say he would be selling The GTI for £1200. He said he would give me £800 for mine, then id give him £600 towards it. Sorry if that was unclear

Shocked that's even more un clear.
£800 (your cars value p/x) +
£600 (you to pay). =
£1400 (total cost to get Gti (not £1200).

Still, that's £90 off the £1490 original asking price & probably about right. Hopefully you got some sort of warrant too Smile

He might have said £700 for my car, I was too busy inspecting the GTI tbh. I think im going back tomorrow to have a proper talk too him about it and maybe another drive. Either way hes knocked some of the price off because i mentioned the points in the OP

Fair enough, ill have a word with him tomorrow and see if i can bump him down to £1200 but tbh id be happy to pay £1300 for it because it would be easier to part ex my car with him than to sell it elsewhere

there's not that much wrong tbh, when i say the bits on the bumpers its not a big patch, both are small so its just the door handle thats the biggest downfall of the paintwork, the rest of it looks good for an 11 year old car. My punto has much worse paintwork and thats an 02 plate with less miles on it

If not it is WELL overdue, check this it could stand you at around £300 to have done..

I was going to sell ours but have spent about £700 on it in maintenance so got to keep it for 3 years or so yet to get us moneys worht out of it!
