id get a clio over a 180 after having both, well using my bros clio.... the only major factor at the time of me buying a 180 was the price diffrence and the interior but the clio have now dropped in price big style

yh insurance is higher on the clios though for some reason? just put your brothers plate in on a price comparison and it came back at 3k compared to a 180 at 2,300

They are good fun to drive but you always feel as though you could of got something better in the same class. They hard to modify for power aswell. They are nice to drive and comfy and are obviously pretty quick.

Ive only had mine a few weeks but ive owned the likes of imprezas, a 172 and a couple of fiesta ST's to name but a few previous cars. Not the quickest or slowwest ive owned. Insurance is the same for the 180 or a 182 clio (which i nearly got instead) Im really enjoying mine. Ye they have their downfalls but what cars dont. The seats are probably only seccond to the seats in my old STI and is still relatively cheap to run in the current climate. I wouldnt want to pay the premium your saying to insure one though!! Cant believe how much kids are willing to pay these days on insurance! Im 27 and it costs me £500 to insure Smile

yh why not? insurance is through the roof on most cars for people my age and well can anyone suggest any other good cars to get with a decent amount of power and reliability? thanks

Chief: Sorry for the smugness... but i was on your side of the fence once so i do feel your pain! Paid £1300 TPFT to insure a £600 Fiesta XR2i when i was 18 lol. The most i ever paid for insurance was my Impreza STI when i was 22, that set me back around £1800, but being a home owner for the last 6 years has took me back to hot hatches as they are cheaper to run/maintain.

are they quick? and have you had any problems with yours so far?

#18: Re: Thoughts on GTI 180?... Author: L5_UKS, Location: West Midlands PostPosted: Wed Nov 30, 2011 6:05 pm

Yeah they are pretty quick but you sort of have to boot it to get it to really move, soon as you hit 4k revs it will pull like a train.

Ermm well I've had quite abit done on mine, had new clutch (180's are very common for the clutch judder) Mine wasnt that bad but got it done so it drives nicer also had new engine mounts and wishbones, drop links new horn because that didnt work when i got the car, then just the other bits I've added on like janspeed exhaust (best exhaust for the 180 in my opinion) new spax coilovers and rear shocks while that was getting changed I thought I might aswell change the topmounts too, so its had new topmounts.

But i would defo recommend one every car has its problems but its a very fun car to drive puts a smile on my face when you keep up with some higher end cars who think they own the road and think oh its only a 206 but they have a shock Wink

yh thats part of the reason id love one. i think its the best feeling ever when you surprise people like that. and i probably will get one to be honest i really like mine now its just a prefer petrol to diesel and i want more power. had an trouble with the torsion bar after you lowered it>?

I don't drive my car every day but when I do take it to my sport practice or match then it puts a smile on my face before, during and after the ride. So easy and comfy to drive with power if you need it Smile

They are awsome cars to drive and very well spec'd for the money, just try to get one thats had the belts done as they should have all been done by now.

They do have problems like the ABS screwing up because of the crappy ABS rings/sensors and the clutch release bearing is likley to go at some point.

But you get over these things when you drive it lol

Suprised there arnt more haters in this thread, Gti 180's are norally slated on here.
