Track Rod / Steering Problems

One of my Track rods snapped the other day after i hit a curb. So i had it replaced, the car does need the tracking sorting. But ever since its been replaced the car feels funny when turning. I if put it into full lock it will stay there even when turning. When before if i let go of the steering wheel it would straighten up.

My thought is the other Track rod could be bent, or could this be because i need my tracking sorting out?

Congratulations Very Happy Probably the tracking get it done first. Also you may have bent the wishbone, you can't always tell my looking at it so get a tape measure and check the horizontal. gaps between the wheels and the arch and compare with the other side.

Get the tracking sorted (with evenly worn tyres on the front) and see if it still does it.
Does it stay in place if you only do a partial turn? If it's only on full lock, the rack and pinion mght be damaged.

It's quite easy to do some serious damage to the steering, suspension, differential and chassis if you hit a kerb at the wrong angle.

I remember a Metro that had hit a kerb, and after being repaired the customer kept complaining that the car was pulling. All the steering and suspension was checked for alignment and the chassis was checked on a jig. Eventually after weeks of head scratching we discovered that the driveshaft had slightly twisted one of the gears in the diff, which in turn was causing it to stick. Recon gearbox sorted it out.

best thing is replace both track rod ends but grese up the pin with the thread on the end and then get tracking sorted and that will sort the probably as thats what i did with mine after steering locked and went head on into a wall

like people have said track I first if its not fixed you may have bent a sturt (depending how hard you hit the Kerb)

I doubt the strut will bend as its the strongest part. Something else would give like the wishbones would bend or there is a chance of the bottom ball joint snapping off.

Wishbones already have a curve in them so that the weak point. I bent one before and you could tell at all until it was compared with a new one.
