Knocking From Back Wheels When Breaking
-> 206 Problems

I have a 1998 1.4 206. When I brake there is a knocking noise coming from the driver-side rear wheel. The harder I break, the louder it is.

Any help will be appreciated as the frost weather is coming.

Jack the car up, give the wheel a hard shake and a pull and push to see if there is any play. see if the tyres have work unevenly.

Have you got discs on the rear? Not sure if it would be the same but my front brake caliper seized on one side. It made a lot of noise when braking just like yours. Took the wheel off and the piston was stuck so only one pad was working.
It wouldn't hurt to have a look

Unlikely to be discs on a '98 1.4. Drums probably. Not so easy to inspect as you have to destroy the hub nut to get it off and replace it.

A common problem is the brake shoe linings come away from the shoes ..

No, the car has drums. Nuts are all fine too. I'll have a look at the shoes tonight and let you all know.
