I'll keep this in mind then and if all else fails (as they say); I've passed the free MOT re test period anyways now, due to a failed lower suspension arm bush on same side, and I think thats what finally killed the shaft as it was on its way out anyway with no cover or grease and only rusty bearings left; with me removing the suspension arm bush it was just too much 'agro' for the old shaft to withstand and so it 'let go-big time' !
cheers!

#22: Re: the intermediate DRIVE shaft can not be removed ? (+ photo) Author: PUGPAUL, Location: hornseaPosted: Mon Dec 12, 2011 1:28 pm ---- THE OLD BEARING RACE WAS EXTREMELY TIGHT i HAD TO BANG IT OUT WITH A HEAVY DUTY CLUB HAMMER AND BOLSTER! There was no way this would come out simply by pulling as stated in the haynes manual or a similar write up on here by another member (ian_uk1975) !! I had to jostle the old shaft and rotate it several times and use a pick tool to remove the remaining ball bearings (about 4) before the shaft would pull clear of the bracket with 'the race' still attached (lodged inside!), before I could get the club hammer on it.
Having got the shaft out of the way of the bracket securing bolt heads, I removed them and gave the bracket an almighty thump with the club hammer to free it from the block. The bushes on the rear engine mount are knackered! Can these two bushes be purchased separately or are they complete with their respective bracket components ONLY? (PICS TO FOLLOW SOON).
Wonder if macj's bracket is the same as the one I just removed? (pic mac?) with a decent bush installed already?
cheers!
