#1: Oil leaking from head gasket side Author: deanparkr, Location: United KingdomPosted: Wed Dec 14, 2011 6:09 am ---- My Headgasket is leaking oil from one of the sides (I think nearest the alternator). I have been quoted £500 to fix the problem.
Just wondering from the experts if this is a good deal? Also am I right in understanding that it does not need skimming if it is just leaking from the side?
No evidence of murky coolant or mayo in the oil cap.

The current leak does not result in oil mixing with coolant etc - does it still need skimming?

Just becuase symptoms do not reveal themselves now, doesn't assure the longevity of it. If you get a new head gasket, and head skimmed, and head rebuilt, there's no reason it won't last a long time (8-10 years+). Effectively, its a top end engine rebuild.

Thanks for that paul_c that helps clear it up :). I'll speak to the garage about your comments and see what they say.
I definitely don't want to be spending money on something that wont last a reasonable amount of time

Find a decent garage, A TU lump is a simple / stone age design, any decent garage will be able to replace the head gasket far cheaper then a Peugeot main dealer.
