Author: tottles-girl, Location: somersetPosted: Tue Dec 27, 2011 2:37 pm ---- got my 1.4 206 in march this year its had sevaral problems but they have been fixed (gear box and air con) recently its been playing up, it will some times turn over fire for a split second and then just continue to turn over with no intention of starting, and other times more often than not it will just turn over with no attempt to start at all, i need to just turn off and on the ignition a few time to get it to start, and then there are some days that it starts as a car should start! frustrating! had a new battery about a month ago, and it cured it for about 2 weeks and then has started doing it again any help would be greatful

What year is the car?
Has it been serviced recently?
Have you got a spare key and tried starting it from that?

Author: tottles-girl, Location: somersetPosted: Tue Dec 27, 2011 4:22 pm ---- 2001, serviced couple months ago, new filters and plugs, gaps checked, and used the spare key to check the immobiliser but just does the same unfortunately. Any bright ideas? Scary when I'm on my own

Could be something as simple as the earth lead from the battery to the gearbox or possibly the transponder aerial around the ignition barrel. Difficult to diagnose online.
Did you follow the correct procedure when replacing the battery. Hopefully you haven't damaged any of the electrics. Have a read of this thread and it may help you out a bit. www.206info.co.uk/Foru...erial.html

Author: tottles-girl, Location: somersetPosted: Tue Dec 27, 2011 5:09 pm ---- took a look at that link thankyou, quite a task to change the battery ! the symtoms have been the same from the battery change so no damage from that by the looks,, will have to get my dad to check all the earths as ex machanic, as for plugs will have to check them too, wouldnt the plugs cause running problems? because the car is fine after it has started.

#11: Re: HELP newbie with 206 that wont start......most of the time! Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Thu Dec 29, 2011 5:56 pm ---- Possibly the aerial around the key barrel, if it's cranking but not firing, or the mutliplug has water in.
If your car is 2001 or older, I have a couple of aerials for sale.

My gf's 206 is doing exactly the same thing as yours.
Had to get it recovered home today because it just wouldn't start at all. Would crank fine, just wouldn't fire.
Changed the coil pack last night for a new one, but problem still persists. Sometimes fire, sometimes wont.
Recovery man put a diode across the feed for the coil pack and said that there's no feed getting to it and suggested the crank sensor.
Put a diag computer on it, and said that no faults were being registered by the ecu.
Strange thing is, when we got recovered home, had to back into a space which is on a slight incline, so just for the sake of it, tried starting the car, and low and behold, she started first time. Reversed into the space, and switched off. Tried to start her again, and same problem. Cranking, but not firing.
I don't know what else to try to be honest.
Anyone?

#17: Re: HELP newbie with 206 that wont start......most of the time! Author: guvna, Location: Epsom, SurreyPosted: Sun Jan 22, 2012 7:46 am ---- With regards to the immobiliser, I know that when the door is opened, there is a beeping noise until the key is put into the ignition. Then the beeping stops. But it's always done this regardless on wether she starts or not.
Would the beeping carry on then if the key wasn't disabling the immobiliser?
As for the double relay, from what I gather, it's underneath the ecu. Gotta work out how to get that off as it looks like there's a rounded off nut on the front of it that looks iffy to shift. Would a spell of WD40 do any good for it?
Thanks.

206 should beep if the key is in the ignition but switched off & then the drivers door is opened.
If it beeps correctly then the transponder key is being seen by the BSI unit so the immobiliser should be working correctly.
#19: Re: HELP newbie with 206 that wont start......most of the time! Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Sun Jan 22, 2012 9:33 am ---- Anti theft nut....2 minutes to get off at the very most with left handed thread socket
#20: Re: HELP newbie with 206 that wont start......most of the time! Author: tottles-girl, Location: somersetPosted: Sun Jan 22, 2012 9:33 am ---- Mine has been fine for a few weeks but then again it doesnt have any rhyme or reason to this problem. when my dad was having a look at the car he found a small hole in the bodywork by the ecu (the hole isnt rust its ment to b there apparently) he doused the ecu in a load of wd40 and since he has done this a few weeks ago its been fine, he is wandering if its water getting to the ecu and confusing it. we are gonna try bunging up the hole and see if that fixes it.
#21: Re: HELP newbie with 206 that wont start......most of the time! Author: kandlbarrett, Location: SwindonPosted: Mon Jan 23, 2012 4:46 pm ---- Crank position sensor?
Though when these start to fail it begins with the symptom when the engine is hot not when cold. Is the problem only or worst when hot or cold starting?
#22: Re: HELP newbie with 206 that wont start......most of the time! Author: guvna, Location: Epsom, SurreyPosted: Thu Feb 02, 2012 1:08 pm ---- Just had the mechanic do a crank sensor on it, and it's the same problem. he's put his computer on it, and it's showing as no faults, however, the problem still remains.
Could this be the immobiliser?
Could this be the ECU?
Starting to get annoyed now as it's costing a fortune, and wondering wether to just cut losses and run.
