#1: Abarth Grey 205 GTI - Inside painted! Author: Lowercase, Location: East Sussex PostPosted: Wed Dec 28, 2011 1:48 pm

Hi guys,

picked myself up a new project the other day. Miami Blue 205 GTI 1.6. manual windows, no power steering, no airbags, a light as hell.

On the whole it's in pretty good nick, just dirty. one scratch on the passenger door that will need some attention from chips away, and one 'air riffle hole near the rear passenger wheel, which i'll sort at work.

hardly any rust however and it goes like the clappers.

it has some jbl's in the front too, which is nice i guess.

pic from when i got it home.

and with my 206

started stripping out the interior for a damn good clean. 20 years of dirt, dust, cigarette ash and rubbish. being thorough, so air vents out, replacing the foam around them etc, sorting any small surface rust in the boot before re carpeting and putting the plastics back in.

the front seats are a bit knackered as usual in 205's

and i think my recaro's would look a bit out of place, so they will be sold to help fund the gti.

can anyone tell me if these half leather seats from the MG ZR will fit?
i know ill have to whip up some frames at work, and get creative with the rear bench (maybe switch the cover over) but the seat belt pretensioners could be a problem come M.O.T, could i take all that out and use the pug seat belts?
i think they'd look quite good in the gti, suit it quite well, and can get a set in top condition for under £100.

will keep updates coming Smile C&C welcome as always

i dont know why we drive anything else! theyre brilliant, no air bags, no power steering, and the only crumple zone is my face, but other than that, brilliant!

its my cheap poke in the eye to the government. £200 cheaper to insure than my 206. and way faster.

got it for under £1000. but it needs a bit of work (as they all do). whether or not i go 100% original will depend on if i can get some front seats in good condition.

but basically i wanted something with a bit of character, that already has a few dings in the doors and stuff, so i can park it at tesco and not worry about some muppet opening his door into it etc. and just a bit of fun to work on and bomb around in, something cheap to put a smile on my face.

but i want to try and restore it with mostly just elbow grease. current schedule is:

- Strip interior plastics and carpets out - thorough wash and shampoo of everything.
- clean interior metals, and treat any small surface rust.
- rip out the stupid aftermarket immobiliser and alarm some muppet fitted.
- interior back in. smelling nice and new and looking good.
- sort out front seats with either o.e.m parts or, the above mg seats etc.

- full service:
oil filter, engine flush, oil change, sump plug washer, air filter, fuel filter, cam belt change. spark plugs, ht leads, upgrade gear linkages and bushes here and there
- clean up engine bay. - it has a new gear box so the sub frames caked in oil from the lazy mechanic.
- remove and shot blast any thing i can get off - and a coat of hammerite to tart them up a bit.
- underseal the undersides

- have scratch on the door fixed
- fix the gunshot hole.
- plasticare the arches and door trim - replace any missing clips.
- find a replacement wind deflector for the vacuum sunroof.
- refurbish the pepperpot wheels

im going to run the standard sunroof through the summer and see if it grows on me.

otherwise ill remove it, fill in the holes from the rails, and cut a piece of carbon fiber out to fill the gap for the sunroof. spray it miami blue, and fit it with hiden brackets and rubber seal that we use at work to fit after market windows to VW pannel vans.

it wont work, but it will look a lot neater than rivetting it on and looking like a dogs dinner. should just look like a standard sunroof on any other car that happens to be body coloured.

sounds a lot, but it's ongoing, id love to do the full strip and respray and make it 100% mint, but then it will be too precious and i wont want to use it.

yea, i'd like to keep the original seats if i can. the rear bench is great, just needs a good clean. the passenger seat fabric looks in good nick, no rips, just has a collapsed foam side on the side you get out..

the drivers seat has a rip and collapsed foam on the side you get out.

so i just need one seat in great condition. and i can use that for the drivers seat, and take the foam from the current seat to put in my passenger seat. so ill be watching ebay etc like a hawk.

haha, the hole wasnt there when i went to view it as i checked the pannel as its a potential rust spot. but the car had been used by the time i went to collect it. so i didnt spot it untill i got it home and gave it a wash lol.

hill billy target practice maybe.. ill have one of the pannel beaters at work take a loot at it, shouldnt be too much of a problem

all things i would have ripped out to be honest. i just want it basic. would like the 1.9 though lol but the extra 10bhp isnt worth the higher premium and tax imo.

maybe next time, i can see myself getting another one to totally overhall when this ones finished. Twisted Evil
