#1: My King of the Mountain roadtrip Author: Icetto, Location: Cape TownPosted: Tue Jan 03, 2012 5:34 am ---- For those that don't know you can Google "Ceres King of the Mountain" to see some of the racing videos and information about this event.
On Friday 30 December 2011 I had some free time so I decided to go to Ceres and drive up all the mountain passes and go up the famous Gydo Pass which was used in the Ceres King of the Mountain competition up till 2008.
So on that day I went up Du Toit's Kloof Pass, Michell's Pass, Gydo Pass, the pass that goes into Witzenberg Valley and then I came back the same way. Du Toit's Kloof was nice and not too busy. Managed to get a top speed of 170km/h on one stretch. Michell's Pass was very busy but at least I enjoyed the scenery. Gydo Pass I was clear almost all the way. I just got 1 car in my way at 400m to go. I would love to ride this pass again now that I know it and for the road to be closed off. The pass into Witzenberg Valley was a very steep one but short. Thought the Witzenberg Valley would be nice to stop for a break and some lunch instead the place is dead quiet with no shops or petrol station. Felt very weird there.

Dutch influence is heavy here. In Cape Town it's split between Brittish and Dutch and as soon as you go outside of the city limits it's almost just Dutch influence. Alot of buildings in those rural towns I visitied have Cape Dutch Style architecture.
