#1: 206 HDI cutting out, fail's to restart Author: Spiky, Location: Cardiff PostPosted: Sun Jan 08, 2012 11:53 am
    ----
i have a 2000 x 206 HDI, that was fine for 7 months, then one day stalled while i was driving.

tried to restart it, it wouldnt, left it an hour or so and it started and run fine, one left it over night and it was fine.

it has done this about 5 times now,

when it wont start you cant hear the fuel pump priming, or the fuel relay click

any ideas?

is there a way to bridge the connections on the fuel pump relay to eliminate that?

the fuel pump is on the engine driven by a belt so you cannot bridge that!

Have you got any warning lights showing up?

Eh? Since when? So what is that sound when you turn on the ignition...

That's the engine idling therefore priming the fuel.

And then you turn it again and the engine starts.

Electric lift pump in the tank & mechanical high pressure pump on the engine.

Depends on the HDI engine in question & what it's fitted to.

Some HDI set up's dont have / need the electric in tank lift pump.

mine has a lift pump in tank,

and that done sound nor does rhe relat under the ECU click, when it wont start

so i dont know if the relay is knackered or wiring fault, or maybe ECU

or something else i dont know about?

When it fails to start, lift up the rear seat & give a few hard / heavy smacks with your fist around where the plastic cover is on the floor pan, if it then starts your looking at a faulty lift pump.

When it don't start the relay under the. Ecu dont click, so the pump isn't going to work anyhow

Think I may buy. Rely and see

when it cuts out it wont start, and the pump in the tank wont work for a few minutes,
leave the ignition off for a few minutes then try, you should hear the pump in tank
priming up.normal fault for cutting out on a hdi is the fuel pump pressure regulator

I think I'd be checking the crank sensor output when it's in the fault condition as it's classic symptoms of a crank sensor cracking up when it simply shows no signs of life and then leave it for an hour, it cools down and it behaves as if nothing was wrong

If the ECU doesn't know where the piston position is then it won't allow fuel in to start the engine. It's sat there waiting for the engine to start turning and show at least minimum rpm, not realising that it's already cranking

without looking, are the crank sensors on the 206 the same as the one's found on a 306, as i have loads of them
