radiator fluid reservoir, can't see the level

On my 01 206 gti the coolant reservoir is a milk white colour and I can't see the level of coolant through it.

It seems a silly design.

The only way I can check the level is to fill it to the top then siphon some out again.

How do you guys check your level? or is it just me that has a non transparent reservoir?

as your filling up keep sticking your finger in till you know it hits your finger.
or at dusk/night shine a torch into the tank and should see level.

Used a torch and still can't see it. Maybe my eyesight is crap.

I hope the low coolant light is reliable.

Look inside the bottle, and you will see a circle inside it smaller in diameter of the bottle,so when the coolant reach the top of it,it means it's on the max. level :),that what I do with my car,but not sure if it's the same with GTi cuz it's look diff.

It's the flat bottle not the round one, and I can fill it till I see the liquid at the spout but that's 2 inches above the max line?

would have been nice if Peugeot used a transparent plastic like most other manufacturers.

IS it dangerous to fill up above the max line or should I just siphon a couple of inches back out every time?

Yeah you can get lack of pressure.

If you use anti-freeze, you should be able to see it anyway

Just take the cap off and squeeze the top radiator hose and if the level is correct you'll see the coolant.

It's on a French car, it's electrical related and you hope it's reliable.

I just look in the filler hole to check mine. Never had a problem that way.
