I hope you aint disconnecting the battery just to change the spark plugs?

Simply no need, just make sure the ignition key is removed.

Basically, yes.
Just be carefull putting the new plugs in, you dont want to cross thread them.
I normally use the spark plug socket with extension bar & spin them in by hand, then use the ratchet for the final tighten.
