#1: My Pug versus Artic Author: GLX_laney, Location: Plymouth, DevonPosted: Wed Jan 11, 2012 12:28 pm ---- Had an interesting day in College yesterday. Halfway through a lesson, a police lady came to pull me out of the lesson! I'd been told someone had knocked my mirror off and was nothing to worry about. Standard stuff.
When i get down to the front of my school, there's two Police cars and a huge great Artic lorry blocking the road! The lorry had tried squeezing through a gap and had clipped the side of my car.
Luckily, only minor damage. The Passenger side wheel arch is scratched and scraped, and the wing mirror is now in smitherines, but nothing more so it seems!
One of the police officers who attended suggested that i contact the company and request that they quite literally 'send me a cheque' for the repairs, rather than going through insurance companies.
Simple stuff, it seems. However, the company in question are Polish based. What would other people advise on here? Should i go through Admiral, and risk my premium for next year, or should i write to the company.
I've had two quotes for the mirror and body repairs. I simply can't believe how expensive it is! I'd openly admit that if i were an employee at this company, i'd happily keep the cheque book in my drawer! I had one quote for £700 and another for around £470?
Thanks for taking the time to help me out! I might be able to post a picture or two later.

When you say arch do you mean the front of back? If its for the front both are a bit expensive.

#4: Re: My Pug versus Artic Author: Mikey2uk, Location: StevenagePosted: Wed Jan 11, 2012 12:38 pm ---- Have you got pictures of the lorry with your car to show what happened? If the answer is yes I would write them a letter with the pictures and see what they say.
You never know they may just pay out for the repairs.
#5: Re: My Pug versus Artic Author: GLX_laney, Location: Plymouth, DevonPosted: Wed Jan 11, 2012 12:39 pm ---- I dont have any pictures of their lorry, but i do have a Police log number etc...
It's just the front passenger wheel arch!
#6: Re: My Pug versus Artic Author: Mikey2uk, Location: StevenagePosted: Wed Jan 11, 2012 12:42 pm ---- You might struggle then as it will be your word against their drivers, but you have nothing to loose trying.
Good luck
#7: Re: My Pug versus Artic Author: Ajo123, Location: MerseysidePosted: Wed Jan 11, 2012 12:47 pm ---- make sure u have all the details of the lorry cab and seperate reg for the load if there was one. police logs dont always have them in though. used to work with this stuff and if the lorry goes awol its a pain in the ass! report it asap, the companies will criticise you if you wait say 2 weeks.
#8: Re: My Pug versus Artic Author: GLX_laney, Location: Plymouth, DevonPosted: Wed Jan 11, 2012 12:48 pm ---- Their driver openly admitted it at the scene, he was as good as gold to be fair! The Police could possibly back me up as well, if for some reason, he did turn round and play 'not guilty'?
#9: Re: My Pug versus Artic Author: M60SHW, Location: CarlislePosted: Wed Jan 11, 2012 12:48 pm ---- get a £700 quote then buy the bits of ebay make £600 lol

#12: Re: My Pug versus Artic Author: D4NTP, Location: Not Leeds or its surrounding areas!Posted: Wed Jan 11, 2012 1:30 pm ---- Don't get me started with f*****g lorry drivers!
#13: Re: My Pug versus Artic Author: Mike_XS, Location: SouthamptonPosted: Wed Jan 11, 2012 1:31 pm ---- Surely your premium won't be affected as it isn't your fault?
#14: Re: My Pug versus Artic Author: cartoonhead, Location: North ManchesterPosted: Wed Jan 11, 2012 1:40 pm ---- phone the company of the lorry driver first to see what they want to do but just make sure you tell them you want a decision within a few hours or your just gonna go through the insurance anyway
they can either pay you direct or take the big hike on the insurance premium next time they renew
#15: Re: My Pug versus Artic Author: D4NTP, Location: Not Leeds or its surrounding areas!Posted: Wed Jan 11, 2012 2:02 pm ---- I thought the company that owned the hgv that hit me might want to be reasonable but no, and sadly, if their based in Poland I doubt they will even read any letters you send. Best thing to do is speak to your insurance and give them all the info you have. They usually try get the acceptance of liability within 30 days, after that your pretty much stuffed, however they will contact you and ask if you would like to continue the claim using your own cover to pay for the repairs. At this point you can always say no and not have a 'at fault' claim on your account.
#16: Re: My Pug versus Artic Author: rttam, Location: devonPosted: Wed Jan 11, 2012 3:01 pm ---- those body quotes are ridiculous tbh
wing mirror - £20-30 ebay piece of cake to fit
2nd hand wing (maybe even in right colour) £60ish ebay
paint for wing if needed £100 tops
if you find a decent bodyshop dont use the big ones they are only intrested in insurance jobs find a good independant one (there's a few down on valley road i think) and its an hours work tops to swap the wing
so thats less than £200 max and saves on your insurance gin up which it will even with a non fault claim
p.s. if you need a hand fitting a wing gimme a shout
#17: Re: My Pug versus Artic Author: GLX_laney, Location: Plymouth, DevonPosted: Wed Jan 11, 2012 4:26 pm ---- Thanks rttam. The cheaper quote is one from Belgrave down Valley Road! The other is Exway Coachworks. (Name and shame for them)
Fine Finish weren't even in when i went down for a quote.
Don't know what to do to be fair. They're a multinational company. Will it effect me next year if i inform Admiral about it? Will it effect my no claims or my premium for next year?
This is annoying me now!
#18: Re: My Pug versus Artic Author: D4NTP, Location: Not Leeds or its surrounding areas!Posted: Wed Jan 11, 2012 5:03 pm ---- You have to inform admiral you have been involved in an incident ragardless of whether you claim or not, so, like i said you may as well let them chase them for you.
For you insurance, run a quote now for next year, add in this incident and see if it goes up. Ive done mine and it made no difference
With regards to the quotes, they provide 'insurance prices'. Dont forget they have to make the car as good as new. so no second hand parts and not a bucket load of filler either.

I mean the quotes
#20: Re: My Pug versus Artic Author: GLX_laney, Location: Plymouth, DevonPosted: Thu Jan 12, 2012 3:42 am ---- Okay, so i've put another quote through admiral, it put my overall premium up from £1314 to £1495
Not much of a change, and i'm delighted with that, FULLY COMP for my second year. But will those quotes change when i actually come to renew next year?
Also, will i lose this years NCB if i do claim for the damages?
#21: Re: My Pug versus Artic Author: devotedsniper, Location: Tamworth, StaffordshirePosted: Thu Jan 12, 2012 4:16 am ---- My advice? avoid the insurance company's, they have the cheek to charge me £400 extra a year from being rear ended (down on there databases as third partys fault too) it's a joke.
#22: Re: My Pug versus Artic Author: Martind, Location: Woolsery, North DevonPosted: Thu Jan 12, 2012 6:04 am ---- With repair quotes like that your insurence company will probably write it off as the car isn't economical to repair (for the insurance company anyway) and the seltlement you would get back after they have written it of will only be a couple of hundred.
Not worth going through them in my opinion. I would just stomach the repair costs yourself.
Write to the company though, you may get a response and be able to claw a bit of money back. But in my opinion, it isn't worth involving insurance for a knocked off wing mirror and a dented wing

Basically the price of insurance constantly changes, however whether it goes up or down, both the price quoted with a claim and without a claim should change by roughly the same amount.
As for the no claims, if you are successful and your insurance claims the money from the other parties insurance then you will keep your no claims.
If they are unsuccessful and you continue the claim using your own insurance to pay, then yes you will lose your no claims.
#24: Re: My Pug versus Artic Author: kurosagi01, Location: NorthamptonPosted: Thu Jan 12, 2012 10:35 am ---- If you made a claim and say you decided cancel the claim, you will still have to declare it but it won't affect your no claims. I recently did this with Admiral. My claim is still on record but my no claim bonus is unaffected just because i cancelled the claim and i have 1 years NCB but claim is still present.
#25: Re: My Pug versus Artic Author: rttam, Location: devonPosted: Thu Jan 12, 2012 12:13 pm ---- exway coachworks are bloody comedians they quoted me £200 to spray a brand new set of arches for my old green 206 lol
