Maybe this has been covered before but im trying to decide which gear linkage to use im building a tarmac rally car & i have both 137 & 180 boxes and linkages so tying to decide which to use cable or rod i intend to use gears set from 180 as ratios are nicer for tarmac rallying, so i can fit it to either casing
im using 137bhp engine so afik i can use either
all feedback greatly appreciated

If you can stick to rods use them, these boxes are sloppy enough and the cables make them even worse.

last time i driven a 180 after giving it a bit of a hard time i missed the gears one or twice not sure if it was because it was cable but it felt strange

but the cable box did fell tighter

Rods are more easily found at a scrappy if necessary. Therefore better supply of used parts.

Fit the constella quickshift kit (you will need to modify it) works great when correctly set up. Gives a nice tight snappy gear change when used with the 3 rod linkage kit.
Straighten out your gear lever and weld on the bottom collar when you have it in the correct place, keep the grub screw on the top one so you can pull it to bits later if needed

Don't use a 180 linkage lol, they're total dog s**t at the best of times, and cost a fortune to replace if they break...

Same Q/S is cheaper at Comp-brake, Looks like the same thing to me but cheaper

But never experienced the cable on the 206, but the 406 type is OK but will never be quick

If you need some rods, I'm sure I can sort you out a deal as you will be in compeition, PS. have you got the 180 Ratios?

cheers for all the info i have a complete 180 box with the lower 1st gear and a 4.5:1 final drive with quaife ATB diff so it is really to decide which casing & selector rods to use

looks like ill use the rods
@macj i have the compbrake quickshift and was thinking id weld the bottom coller alright, can you recall what measurement you fitted the bottom coller up from bottom of lever

I would fit it with the grub screws till your happy with the throw and then weld it up after..... I am not sure you will get the same result with my measurement
