#1: 206 1.4 Hdi won't rev beyond 2800RPM UPDATE Author: pwbadi, Location: RomfordPosted: Thu Jan 12, 2012 1:51 am ---- This issue started when it was very cold. Last week I changed the diesel filter but the problem is still on.
The engine management light had been on for the past 2 years but it did not cause any problems.
The mechanic says that we should clear the engine management light before we start looking at other things. I need to get this ASAP because I am planning to sell this car soon.
What are your suggestions? Last edited by pwbadi on Tue Jan 17, 2012 12:37 am; edited 1 time in total

This.
The fact you have left it for 2 years won't have helped.

But it was purely due to being mislead by the RAC man. The 206 being my wife's car hardly gets used. One day I decided to take it to work and didn't realise that the fuel was low. It stopped and the RAC guy got it started. However the engine management light came on. RAC guy said that it will clear after a fuel filter change. As it was a new filter I never changed it and only did around 800 miles since that incident ( Over 2 years)
After reading honest John forum, I have a reason to believe that my car needs either a top up of Eolys fluid or a DPF clean up.
But my car is a 2002 02 plate and I thought DPFs were introduced after 2004/05.
Do you think my 2002 1.4 hdi has a DPF?

Get the codes read, fuel filter wont cause a permanent fault

you need it scanned with peugeot diagnostics really.

What a relief!!. I really don't want to spend a lot of money as I am planning to sell and go for a 407. I know DPFs are known to give trouble. Last edited by pwbadi on Fri Jan 13, 2012 1:38 pm; edited 1 time in total

sorry to say it but your cars worth much less in its current state so you will be better off spending a few quid getting it right, and getting a better price for trade-in/sale.
#11: Re: 206 1.4 Hdi won't rev beyond 2800RPM Author: pwbadi, Location: RomfordPosted: Fri Jan 13, 2012 1:25 pm ---- Need to get it fixed before selling. Rest of the car is really good with a new clutch, timing belt and new front suspension.
I ve booked a scan on monday with a mechanic. Lets see what he says
#12: Re: 206 1.4 Hdi won't rev beyond 2800RPM Author: pwbadi, Location: RomfordPosted: Tue Jan 17, 2012 12:37 am ---- Got it scanned last night . Code was related to the glow plugs, saying there is an error.
The guy who scanned was Polish and I couldn't understand some bits he tried to explain.
After we read the code, he opened the heater plug controller unit (set of relays in a fancy box) and identified a reverse current coming along the negative lead to a sensor. This prompted him to check the glow plugs and they were all faulty ( That is what he said)
And his final conclusion was that we cannot proceed with a diagnosis unless we get a full set of glow plugs, which makes sense.
However my concern was that I have never seen the glow plugs coming on for the past 2 years and the engine management light had been on for a very long time.
His answer to was that the glow plugs may not be the reason for the car to go on LIMP mode but the reason cannot be found unless we rectify what the code reader says.
The guy who introduced me has all confidence in this guy. So I am off to buy a set of new glow plugs

Your getting rid of a 206 & going for a 407, you need your head looking at
You would be far better of keeping the 206 unless you really need the space / load carrying capacity of a bigger car.

#16: Re: 206 1.4 Hdi won't rev beyond 2800RPM UPDATE Author: pwbadi, Location: RomfordPosted: Sat Jan 21, 2012 1:59 am ---- Changed glow plugs last night but it didn't clear the code. Then decided to change the Heater Plug Controller Unit. And it worked.
For the first time, my glow plug light came on this morning.
Thanks for all your advice
