#1: 206 Gti knocking "With pic" Author: rick-gti, Location: welshpool, mid walesPosted: Fri Jan 13, 2012 3:00 am ---- my 2000 gti (138) makes abit of a knocking/ticking noise at around 2k rpm.
never heard it before as i had a staight through exhaust fitted, i now have the standard system on and it can be heard.
i dont think its coming from the head, could it be the exhaust manifold? Last edited by rick-gti on Mon Jan 23, 2012 9:19 am; edited 1 time in total

#3: Re: 206 Gti knocking Author: shadow, Location: gloucesterPosted: Fri Jan 13, 2012 5:59 am ---- maybe exhaust heatshield loose/to close to bodywork
#4: Re: 206 Gti knocking Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Fri Jan 13, 2012 6:10 am ---- Its not the normal GTI manifold rattle / noise problem is it?
Official Peugeot warranty fix was remove exhaust manifold & spot weld the 4 inner tubes together & then spot weld them to the outer as well.

As i have had the centre section and cat off i am assuming its either the manifold issue or the cat. Just need someone to lend me a foot to rev the car so i can trace the problem
#6: Re: 206 Gti knocking Author: rick-gti, Location: welshpool, mid walesPosted: Fri Jan 13, 2012 8:00 am ---- I will get someone to rev the car when Ive got it in the air and have a listen. Just hope its nothing internal.
#7: Re: 206 Gti knocking Author: m4tth3w, Location: sheffieldPosted: Fri Jan 13, 2012 5:17 pm ---- I'm having the same issue on my 01 gti, although mine is through the rev range, louder when cold.
I had a oil and filter change today and it doesn't seem to make much difference. Anyway I just turned the radio up, because I'm not spending no money on the old knacker.
#8: Re: 206 Gti knocking Author: rick-gti, Location: welshpool, mid walesPosted: Sat Jan 21, 2012 3:44 pm ---- How hard is it to remove the exhaust manifold? I have sourced the noise to the manifold. I have heard that this is a common problem on the gti 138.

So common in fact that the Peugeot official warranty fix is to fire up the welder
#10: Re: 206 Gti knocking Author: rick-gti, Location: welshpool, mid walesPosted: Mon Jan 23, 2012 4:33 am ---- can this be done with the manifold on the car or does it need to be removed?
#11: Re: 206 Gti knocking Author: Seabook, Posted: Mon Jan 23, 2012 5:34 am ---- i have seen people doing this when the manifold is on the car
#12: Re: 206 Gti knocking Author: rick-gti, Location: welshpool, mid walesPosted: Mon Jan 23, 2012 7:15 am ---- is this where they rattle and need welding? (red dots)

Yes, also weld the 4 pipes together in the middle.

Would Peugeot still entertain a fix on a 11 year old car?

No it was never a safety recall so it's not Peugeot's problem.
If the customer brought the car back for this issue under the Peugeot 3 year manufacturers warranty then the manifold would be removed & welded with no cost to the owner.
If the car was outside the 3 year warranty its new manifold time & the owner has to pay for it.
