Firing up

My 2005 has sometimes started to take a long time firing up. I've been told it could be the battery is going (it's still the original battery so could be on is last legs).

Before I splash out on a battery test does anyone know if this could be something else (I'm not mechanically minded and wondered if it might be the starter motor)

Any help appreciated.

Most places will do a free battery/alternator check. Most likely isnt the starter motor because it wouldn't turn over at all if that had gone/jammed.

6 years is pushing a battery to the max ... especially if it isn't driven much (lots of stop-start?)

What He Said plus during winter almost everywhere you go you have your lights, heater blower, rear demister, wipers turned on, so on short journeys the alternator can't produce enough power to replenish that used from the battery
