#1: 206 XS and Saxo VTR differences Author: Andrew, Location: Black Country Ay I PostPosted: Thu Jan 19, 2012 12:39 pm

I've always wondered why there is about 10hp difference between the Silvertop Saxo VTR (98hp) and the 206 XS (88hp) when it is the same 1.6 8 valve engine. What exactly makes the difference?
- Cam
- Head
- ECU Map

?

Thanks

bear in mind that early silvertop can also be 90bhp

anyway they are totally different....

latest VTR has higher compression (via different piston)

Black top run solid lifter while silver top use hydraulic (so cam is different too)

inlet+throttle body are different

ECU are different 1 plug vs 3 plug

just to confused you more

106 S2 rallye also has a 1.6 8v engine but has 103bhp Laughing Laughing Laughing

Thanks for the replies so far

Solid lifters can rev higher so I understand the difference, but what did they do to make the late silver top just that bit better than the 206 xs? My guess is the cam

I have a question, why did Peugeot not put the better engine in the 206? Very Happy

They phased out the 8v in the 206 by 2002 to make way for the 16v which was also detuned compared to the one in the 106/Saxo - I am guessing this could have been to help sell the last 106s/Saxos, or maybe they wanted to keep the power low in the TU engined 206s to keep insurance down for what was intended to be a cheap car en masse
