#1: Should I sell up and get a gti 180 instead of my 138 Author: Ahoward87, Location: HertfordshirePosted: Tue Jan 24, 2012 5:38 am ---- I'm really in two minds. Insurance will allow me a 180 now and have got my eye on a little gem but do I sell up my gti 138
I absolutely love my 138 and is a good example. But a think a 180 gives me a better base model to really get my teeth stuck in to the 206's as I haven't had mine for that long really.
What should I do?.?.

If your wanting to mod your car you may be better with the 138 because the engine is easier to mod, if you want a car that is good out of the box get a 180.
Que the 180 haters

#6: Re: Should I sell up and get a gti 180 instead of my 138 Author: Ahoward87, Location: HertfordshirePosted: Tue Jan 24, 2012 5:51 am ---- Thats my point, their value has dropped from high insurance, fuel etc.. But I will not be paying much more on insurance getting a 180 and fuel is expensive any way I look at it.
I would prefer the 180 and Let's face it, the 180 is quicker then my 138 and pumping time and money into a car seems to be more worthwhile doing it to a 180.
My main issue is getting a good one that is mechanically sound and clean as mine is.

Why not just keep your 138 GTI & invest in a better car then a 206 in the future.

Probably not, it would cost more money to get more from the 180 engine.
The 138 is easier to mod for power from what ive read, but as i say if you compare them both out of the box the 180 is better.

Great chassis and a hoot to dive, yes I've had 5 French cars so I've heard all the "FPOS" jokes but I think it's a cracking little car for how cheap they are.

Same here.
I'm on my second 206, and i still dont know why i got that one.
They do have perks tho.
Cheap to buy.
Cheap to replace parts on/upgrade.
Wouldnt say cheap on insurance, must be classed as a boy racer.
But it could be that all insurance has gone up stupid amounts, 5years NCB doesnt seem to mean anything to anyone.

Anyway, you can get 180's from only £1500+ if you check ebay so worth a look if you fancy upgrading. Not that expensive anymore so Im not even talking about buying a "melon"

A melon will have less ABS/Airbag Fault/Anti Pollution Faults/VVT Sensor Faults than a 180 though....therefore making it a better pound for pound buy.

But yeah if you look on ebay, there is one for £1200 - needs new bumper and other bits, but come on, thats like £90's worth in 206 panel terms. Bargain.
Also BIN £1800

Hence I bought this but I miss the straight line performance of the GTi-180 and some of the extra toys, other than that I put some money back in the bank and got something that really likes corners

I do like the 306 & I nearly bought a GTI 6 BUT after the test drive I just knew it wouldnt end nicely if I bought it, so I got the 405 instead.

#32: Re: Should I sell up and get a gti 180 instead of my 138 Author: Ahoward87, Location: HertfordshirePosted: Mon Jan 30, 2012 7:41 am ---- Right, well I've decided to stick with my 138 gti as I know exactly where it has been and it is in better shape then a couple 180's I had a look at.
So where to start??.
Started on this over the weekend in BMW graphite grey. I'm really liking to colour choice.
I will probably be on a hunt for a set of fast road cams and maybe some management work done to the ecu.
