#1: Possible Faulty Tappet?? Author: countduckula55, Location: AngleseyPosted: Mon Jan 30, 2012 12:17 pm ---- Hi, I just thought I would see if anyone could shed any light on a small problem I have?
When I first start the car (2002 206 GTi 138 - 52k) when it's cold it sounds fine - no problem.
Within a few miles, it develops a tapping noise which is driving me mad
It runs fantastic and I have recently changed the oil (again) but it is just the same - it sounds like 1 tappet has failed??
I have read on here and some other forums about similar noises but they seem to be the opposite and sound when the engine is cool?
Any ideas please?? Many thanks.
#2: Re: Possible Faulty Tappet?? Author: Seabook, Posted: Mon Jan 30, 2012 1:57 pm ---- how did you know only one tappet is failed?
what oil did you use?
#3: Re: Possible Faulty Tappet?? Author: countduckula55, Location: AngleseyPosted: Mon Jan 30, 2012 7:20 pm ---- Thanks for the reply Seabrook, I don't know that 1 tappet has gone, it just doesn't sound like multiple 'tapps'!! but what do I know
As for the oil I have used 10w40 recommended from Peugeot which has done nothing for the noise on both occasions I have used it (just changed it again after 6 months).
Thanks again

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? My 180 is exactly the same, quiet as a mouse when cold but taps when it warms up? Its getting very annoying and embarrassing.

What oil are you using?

Total quartz 9000 5w40, is what I used and is recommended by Peugeot

Only way to find out would be to take the head off and get it checked. Could try some topend treatment at a cheaper option.
