Noticed today that the coil instrument on dash doesnt come on before i try to start, should it always?

The coil is the diesel pre heat warning light.

Having just read through a project thread, could it be egr related? I had mine removed on my 306 for years no problem?

mine was unplugged too, no problem to start this morning/ tonight where it was -5 outside.

it will take longer to warm up but it shouldn't affect starting

it takes about 4-5 sec cranking time though

Right had the battery tested again today. Does anyone know what cranking amp the hdi should have?

Bearing in mind i had driven it for about 20mins before I had it tested, at 400CA it passed, at 600 and 500 it failed. Sticker on battery isnt very clear as to what CA the battery is...

Changed the battery on the Mrs. 1.4 Hdi yesterday as at -5 C it turned over 4 times then died, £70 for new battery and al'ls sorted now. Was the same battery as yours TY-HDI, and it was probably the original.
