Car won't idle after a jump start.
-> 206 Problems

#1: Car won't idle after a jump start. Author: fazed, Location: Northampton PostPosted: Thu Feb 02, 2012 3:18 am

Morning all,

My poor little pug wouldn't start this morning, it was cranking slowly but not firing. I successfully jump started it but now the idle is at around 2.5k, but seems to be haunting between 2k and 3k.

Any ideas?

Many thanks,

Michael

What engine have you got? Is it pre-plexed or plexed? Plexed cars shouldn't be jump started. Battery is dying as well by the sound of it too. It could be the ICV (idle control valve) playing up, take it out and clean it and the hole it fits in.

Seems nearly every post lately people cant be bothered to share this information.

How do they expect help when we havent got a clue what 206 they actually have.

If people cant even be bothered to post up what 206 they have that they want help with then they should be banned from on here in my opinion, its beyond a f*****g joke now.

That would help wouldn't it, but it seems to have sorted it self out,
Resetting the BSI / ECU seems to have fixed the idle problem.
Just been out to Halfrauds to purchase a new battery and they wanted £106 !! It must be the cold weather driving the prices up.
I will borrow the one out of the Mr2 until it warms up a bit.

Anyway it is a 2002 1.1 multiplexed.

Go to a decent motor factors and price up a battery. You can probably pick one up for £60-£70 from there. If you know how to work them, you might even get a bit knocked off for trade discount.

I paid £65 for a battery (with 3 years warranty) last year from my local Motorsave. Avoid Halfords like the plague.

There fine if you have a trade card.

Varta OR Bosch for batteries.

You could've gone to Peugeot and got a battery cheaper than halfords, £75.
