I'm only asking as I cannot hear it come on or off, checked the fuse and that's fine.
On previous car's I've heard the fan and they usually still run after switching engine off?

It means you have a cooling system problem.
90 deg C is to cold for the fan to be cutting in.

I found out that my over heating was caused by loss of coolant due to a leaky pipe which will be getting replaced ASAP.

But unleas you put onto a reader you won't know if it is a sensor causing the gauge to read low or the thermostat opening early! Thermostat opening early means it will use a bit more fuel and the engine oil won't be at its designed operating temperature.
Neither are terminal, not inside 10s of thousands of miles anyway so it's up to you if you do anything about it or ignore it.
If it was me I would want to know what it was and have it working right but I also get accused of being pedantic. Quite a few here accept your gauge behaviour as "normal" for a 206.
