#1: Rear axle strip down - can the mounts be removed? Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Fri Feb 03, 2012 10:48 am ---- Does anybody know if the silver bits on my rear axle can be removed from the tube? I'd like to get the tube powder coated or resprayed and it would be easier if the silver bits could be removed.
I might invest in some solid axle mounts from Peugeot Sport too. For about €20 each they migh tighted the handling marginally.
If the silver bits can be removed I can also get them shot blasted to clean them up before painting. I'm a bit hesitant to get the tube blasted because if any material is left over from the blastic it can get into the axle bearings.

They still the original bearings?
Could always give the rear beam an overhaul with some new bearings after shotblasting.
Ive got some red ultralife grease at work I reckon will lube the rear beam bearings up a treat.

i got no success to remove them at all. i might have to do what people suggest in the 205GTi forum, blow torch to melt the metal bit on the bush and then scrap it off
back to your questions: no, they can't be removed easily....
it looks to me they are pressed on though...

Well they went on so they must come off...might not be worth the hassle of trying to remove them on a decent axle though.
They are the original bearing and have done 62k miles so they should be ok. I'm thinking about changing the bearings when it's apart, although if all is fine I might just grease the bearings.

#11: Re: Rear axle strip down - can the mounts be removed? Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Mon Feb 06, 2012 9:27 am ---- I'm going to get it to a much higher standard than that when I'm finished. It won't be on the road during any winter now.
