#1: My 206, Solid Ice and a Rock Face Author: GLX_laney, Location: Plymouth, DevonPosted: Sat Feb 04, 2012 2:52 pm ---- Evening Gents!
Just thought i'd drop a quick post in here. Last night i was coming down a country lane, locked up on some ice and slammed into a rock fascia.
All of the damage was to the front drivers side wheel and wing.
The Recovery guy said i'd snapped the wishbones, the driveshaft had come out and chassis was probably bent.
What are, if any, my chances of repair? It's my first car, and i've had it only a couple of months. It cost me £650 when i bought it.
I'm only Third Party F&T too, so not covered for this incident. My insurers do not yet know.
My original plan was to SORN, strip and scrap the car, but if there's a chance of repair, i'd be delighted.
Thanks for your help. Last edited by GLX_laney on Sat Feb 04, 2012 5:11 pm; edited 1 time in total
#2: Re: My 206, Solid Ice and a Rock Fascia Author: iainlovatt, Posted: Sat Feb 04, 2012 2:55 pm ---- start off with £15 quid for gearbox oil, £90 wishbone, new driveshaft £50
body work is dead easy though just keep an eye through ebay!
#3: Re: My 206, Solid Ice and a Rock Fascia Author: iainlovatt, Posted: Sat Feb 04, 2012 2:57 pm ---- perhaps a buckled wheel too?
#4: Re: My 206, Solid Ice and a Rock Fascia Author: GLX_laney, Location: Plymouth, DevonPosted: Sat Feb 04, 2012 3:00 pm ---- Thanks for your reply Iain. Will i definitely need a new driveshaft, or is there a chance you could just fit the one that has popped out?
And ironically, i picked up a set of brand new alloys (17" TSWs), for Peugeot that evening! Luckily i didnt have them in the car at the time!

Another dead 206 due to ice. Won't be the last one either. If there is a possibility the chassis might be bent, I would get that checked before spending any money on it. If it's not bent, then happy days, you have a project. If it's bent, just strip and scrap.

Thanks for your reply macca. I can't really say it wasnt my fault, as it was my choice to be out driving. On the flip side, i just hope it can be repaired, as not only is it my first (meaning i spent years saving up for it, and hours polishing it before i could afford the insurance!) but i genuinly have 206 love, and i won't be able to pick another one up with the same spec, for the same price again!

What if the Chassis isn't bent? Will it be repairable?

#13: Re: My 206, Solid Ice and a Rock Fascia Author: Seabook, Posted: Sat Feb 04, 2012 5:02 pm ---- not worth to repair it.
at the end of the day you can get a proper 206 under a grand.
#14: Re: My 206, Solid Ice and a Rock Fascia Author: GLX_laney, Location: Plymouth, DevonPosted: Sat Feb 04, 2012 5:05 pm ---- That's cool. If anyone wants any parts, i'll be happy to sort you guys out before i organise for it to be scrapped.
#15: Re: My 206, Solid Ice and a Rock Fascia Author: D4NTP, Location: Not Leeds or its surrounding areas!Posted: Sat Feb 04, 2012 5:06 pm ---- Buy another car, Break that one and flog the bits on here and ebay.
#16: Re: My 206, Solid Ice and a Rock Face Author: L5_UKS, Location: West MidlandsPosted: Sat Feb 04, 2012 8:35 pm ---- As above not worth the effort and money to fix that, Better scrapping and buying another
#17: Re: My 206, Solid Ice and a Rock Face Author: Rob2859, Location: HalifaxPosted: Sat Feb 04, 2012 8:35 pm ---- Oh that has not gone well. I have bent wishbones before but never totally snapped one. They are pretty thick. Must have hit it hard.
#18: Re: My 206, Solid Ice and a Rock Face Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Sun Feb 05, 2012 2:14 am ---- How can anybody say that's not worth repairing? Wishbones are designed to break, subframes are supposed to bend to save the body from damage. The photos don't show enough detail.

I would have bought three cars by now if you never replaced a few bent parts

Not real;y worth it on the value of the car though is it. Plus, who can say the damage you cant see. Its easy to replace parts you can see are broken.

It is my first, though, and it's worth more than that in my opinion. What would i be looking at repairing and how much would it cost/
#23: Re: My 206, Solid Ice and a Rock Face Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Sun Feb 05, 2012 3:39 am ---- It's impossible to say without seeing everything.
#24: Re: My 206, Solid Ice and a Rock Face Author: kurosagi01, Location: NorthamptonPosted: Sun Feb 05, 2012 4:08 am ---- Car needs a complete examination in my opinion if you want keep it,like the engine bay, suspension, centre pipes etc etc. If all those are okay then its all case of replacing the body parts and things you listed.
Apart from the things you listed that needs changing like wishbone, driveshaft.
You should be able to get the wing panel cheap from scrapyard if they have your colour and as for the side skirt maybe but i'm not entirely sure myself if that can be replaced too?? Unless someone can correct me on the side skirt.
Your probably won't be able to find front bumper like yours same colour but you will be able to get one cheap if you scout around on ebay or again check how much the scrapyard sells them.

You mean the sill that is welded on.
If you know what your doing with tools it could be an easy repair BUT I wouldnt trust 90% of the people on here to actually know what there doing / make a safe repair.
#26: Re: My 206, Solid Ice and a Rock Face Author: Ghosty, Location: WiltshirePosted: Sat Feb 11, 2012 1:13 pm ---- yes the sideskirt is wielded on, so that would need a proper mechanic to cut and replace £150, i have seen lots of 206s with bent side skirts seems to be very hollow behind there

206 doesnt even have sideskirts.
You mean the outer sill panel, its perfectly normal for it to be hollow behind there on a car.
