Ruff Chugging engine (possibly on 3 cylinders)
-> 206 Problems

#1: Ruff Chugging engine (possibly on 3 cylinders) Author: shaunc, Location: Salford/Manchester PostPosted: Mon Feb 06, 2012 2:21 pm
    ----
Hi everyone

On my way home from work today as i left the motorway my engine suddenly dropped in power and sounded very "ruff", like a chugging/struggling noise.
To me is does sound like its running on 3 cylinders which has lead me to check the coilpack and spark plugs for obvious damage. I removed coil pack and each spark plug individually, checked them for damage or irregular colouring but as far as i can see, all is normal.

I have no idea whats going on Confused

But I know you clever lot will!! Very Happy

Thanks for an help!!

well you probably need to get the code read first...

This happened to me, I ended up having to have a new injector...but yeah it is wise to get the code first as it will tell you exactly what is wrong....With me I had the new injector put in, and a few days later my engine gave a loud chug noise then my car felt like it was stalling then made a whirring down noise...the engine completely cut out and I had to pull over. The road was covered in petrol, but I found out the dudes at the garage didn't clip the fuel cable in properly, once that was in I was on my way haha

Just because there's no obvious signs of it being coilpack or plugs doesnt mean it isnt. Could also be the cat has gone from previous searching when this has happened to me but turned out to be coilpack. But before you go throwing your money away do as the others have said and get the code read.

Yes they are bosch supers, I know the problems NGK's and other cause.....

Ok so I've phone round a few garages and cheapeast place close enough will do the fault code reading for £30 so seems like an alright price, especially if its gonna answer my question for sure!
Thanx for your help everyone, I'll keep you updated Smile

Well.......
The wierdest thing happend on my way home from work today,
My car fixed itself!
I was sat in traffic and it was chugging away sounding ruff as hell like it has been the last few days, then as I moved off there was a sudden burst of power (almost crashing into the car in front) and the lil pug has gone back to normal!
The only thing at all I would say is wrong or different is as I'm cruising at 30 I get a little push of power, not a massive amount but just noticeable.
So, could this be the injectors? And could it possibly have been just a blockage and its finally fired out a load of s***??

Shocked
