Poor Fuel Economy 2.0 HDI

Hey guys...

My fuel economy has been getting worse and worse and it's really starting to get to me as i regularly do 180 mile journeys...

The car has a Pro Steve Remap and a decat, straight after the remap I was able to get roughly 100 miles to 1/8th of a tank where as before the remap I was getting 60-70.

Baring in mind, I don't really do a lot of driving in town at the moment but when i do it seems to rinse fuel even more than it used to :/

It has recently come up with the little spanner on the odometer, so it's indicating that it wants a service and my injectors do tick quite a lot. Can these problems combined really cause such dramatic effects?

I don't want to spend a poo load of money on this POS car for it to make little to no difference. I tried injector cleaner a couple of months ago when i first started to notice poor fuel consumption, but made no difference.

Another thing to note that the car did a month or so was pretty much lose all power whilst driving along, it would then pick up speed and drop off again, a similar kind of feeling to driving a petrol car with a faulty coilpack.

Any help on this would be great as paying £1.41 for Diesel to get 45MPG seems a bit retarded to me.

A service will hep your consumption but there could be other things wrong.

I'd do a service then if it doesnt improve i'd get a diagnostic done.

EDIT: Just read the bit about the power loss, get a diagnostic done instead of waiting.

Mmmm, i'm thinking i might get a diagnostic done first just to play safe rather than spending £50 on bits to find the engine is going to explode soon Razz

Have no idea where do diagnostics around here though tbh -.-'

45-48MPG Is about right anyway, one thing people miss out is the fuel filter have a look at that

Maybe before the remap, but like i said, since that i've been able to achieve 60+ on a long run...

I'll try the fuel filter again, but I don't have any of my tools so i doubt I can get it off by hand, i tried a few weeks ago

most i got from mine on a long run running driving very conservative ( relitives in car lol) was 640 from a brimmed tank ussally get around 500/550 ish

I used to get about 550 that was 340 motorway and the rest town ish driving... After the remap I was getting 85-100 miles to a tank, yes... However, its probably nearer the 85 mark because my last quarter seems to disappear quite rapidly and the car has run out of fuel before when it was half through the orange, so could be a faulty fuel gague...

But that's besides the point, I'm still noticing that its using more fuel than it used to lol

always use the fuel receipt to calculate mpg; fuel gauge is not that correct; first 1/4 tank last forever and after that the fuel gauge goes down like hell

Trip computer on the multiplexed 206 is pretty accurate.

What mileage has the engine done? How often do you service it? Especially remapped, and the amount of miles you drive, it will need regular servicing.

I don't have a trip computer, so it's always worked out from the amount of fuel I put in...

It has done 107,600 so not much at all really. I've only had the car since the end of September so it hasn't been serviced since i've had it.

I need to see about getting some reconned injectors and doing a service on it to be honest.

I did however, disconnect the intake pipe to the air box, make it shorter and poke it downwards so there is less restriction and I did my long drive and it seemed to help. Whether it was coincidence, I don't know :/

Yeh, that's what i thought...

Economy is definitely better, i've noticed it on short runs...

Still needs a service but need to get this injector ticking sorted out
