Accelerating, High revs low power
-> 206 Problems

#1: Accelerating, High revs low power Author: Yoshii, Location: West Bromwich PostPosted: Thu Feb 09, 2012 3:33 pm

Hello everyone, i have hit my first problem on my 206!
Just recently i went for a drive and the car didnt feel right, put it into 2nd gear and put my foot down but the car just wont move like before :/.
Never happend before! The rev meter is on 4 or 5 but the car just goes up in speed slowly, dont feel powerful no more :(.
One of my friends said it was a problem with the clutch and i think so too, your views will be welcome.

Also when i start up my car and its in neutral, the rev meter aint on 0 its half way between 0 & 1, quiet odd.

My car is 1.4 sport 16v 2005 Smile

When the car is running it will never be on 0. O a cold day it should be just under 1k.

Other proble could be a few different things. When was the car last serviced?

When your car is on idle it should be reving between 500-1000 revs.
Is the clutch slipping?

When you are driving and it revs high, when you ease off the gas, does it (hard to explain) sort of jolt/catch (like an automatic changing gear) and if you put too much power down in too high a gear, does it just rev?
When you have been letting the car do this for a while, does it smell bad? Sort of cabbagey?

To see if your clutch is slipping, go out and start it. Leave the handbrake on, stick it in 4th.
Slowy start lifting the clutch.... When it gets to biting point, does the back of the car dip and revs drop like it will stall if you release clutch?
Or does it slip?

Best bet is get it serviced and see how it is after that.

When i put too much power it will jus rev for about 10 seconds then i ease off a bit then i start picking up speed, hard to explain :/

Ok i will try it 2moro morning and will let you know mate.

Could be coil pack or injectors...

I have a similar problem. I'm just in the process of getting a new coil pack to see if that helps it at all.

Let me know how you get on checking the clutch, because what you have just said sounds like the clutch is slipping.
Might as well check it, seeing as that is free to do. It would be silly to spend money on parts when you haven't ruled that out.
Get a local mechanic to take it round the block, more than likely do it for free if it is a small 1man band type garage.

Sounds like the clutch is slipping. And if the revs are 0 your engines off.
