#1: mileage / replacement speedo Author: bjj007, Location: norfollk PostPosted: Wed Feb 15, 2012 12:56 pm

Does anyone know if this is correct for the 2 plug speedo on a 2000 206?

"one thing you should be very careful of is that a speedo cluster is paired with the "BSI" ( intelligent fuse box). The mileage is logged in both units. So if you buy a new cluster, when it's fitted, the cluster and "BSI" talk to each other. basically they ask each other about the highest mileage logged. And it's the highest which will be used. Now that's not a problem with a new cluster, because the mileage logged in it is ZERO. When/If you buy a used, you must be 100% sure that it has a lower mileage then you car. Because if you get a ckuster that has gone 10.000 miles more than your car, the moment you turn the key, you car will have gone 10.000 miles more without moving an inch. And the only way I know of to fix that is replaceing the cluster, BSI box and engine ECU all at once and with all new parts!!"

thanks Smile

No that doesn't apply, the mileage is only within the cluster

Only counts on multiplex 206's.

2 plug / non plexed cluster = mileage displayed will be whatever is stored in the actual cluster memory as they dont have anti clocking built in.

I think you can swop a part over from your cluster to the replacement to keep the same mileage but im not sure of exactly what bit you need to swop.

I had to change my cluster, it was a pre plexed cluster too. I changed the speedometer and then got the mileage clocked back to the currect milage of my old one. So what i did was change the cluster at the garage where I had got the mileage corrected.

Hi, I kind of have the same probably... I just bought this car today and noticed that when i got home that the reading on the mileage in the car is around 65000 but according to the last mot cert it should be at least 110.... I asked the person who sold it to me and he said it was because he changed the dials... so really it should be showing the higher milage no?

Its a v reg 2.0... I have no idea whetyehr its multiplex or not?

Non-plexed. If it was multi-plexed it would have overwritten the lower reading.
