Does anybody know how to wire the above? The connector in my car has a plug on the end with three wires. There are two other connectors with wires I could probably link it into but not sure where to start.

Thanks for the quick reply it has 4 connectors on the cigarette lighter so I'm still confused

#5: Re: Cigarette lighter fitting Author: fatboyslim, Location: Lincolnshire,Home of the RAFPosted: Fri Feb 17, 2012 6:15 am ---- So 3 connectors on the cars plug
And 4 connectors on the cigarette lighter
As Iain says the 3 from the car would be
Live feed for the cigarette lighter
Live feed for the bulb
Common earth (negative connection for both the above)
It looks like the lighter you've got has a positive & negative feed for each
So get a multimeter and find out which is which
This may help...
IIRC the middle connector on the cig lighter is +ve and the outer body is -ve (may be wrong though so check to be sure!!)

Thanks for the help that sound spot on. I didn't have a multimetre so I figured it out through trial and error. I only use it for charging as I don't smoke so I just installed it without the pop action part connected. Might connect it at a later point but all is working for now

These are the wire codes from the manual. the colours may vary though
Multiplex is not what you would expect. It is a common +ve which feeds the bulb and the power outlet. Where as pre plex is a common -ve.
You really need a multimeter to make sure you get the right wires as there is no guarantee that the manuals are right. Don't want you blowing something or having smoke pouring from the car as you drive along.
#9: Re: Cigarette lighter fitting Author: DREWDEN, Location: huddersfieldPosted: Thu Jun 20, 2013 6:48 am ---- Be careful though, the light part (bulb) is not fused and runs through the bsi. The cigarette lighter is fused.
I know to my expense as i had to pay an auto elec to sort my bsi out.
