#1: Squeak Whirring Noise Author: mrb82, Location: StaffordshirePosted: Fri Feb 17, 2012 7:55 am ---- Hi,
Another newbie here, but I've gone through 23 pages of posts to find a solution with no luck (although I know how to fix the boot rattle and that I probably need to check the head gaskett for the running water noise).
When at 75 on the motorway the whirring noise starts (it is preceeded with the squeaking from about 60). It sounds like it's coming from front nearside in the engine bay/wheel. It sounds mechanical, like a pump or a motor of some sort, father-in-law suggests something is loose and vibrating?
It doesn't happen all the time though. It's normally when on the motorway, and it's really loud. I have to drop speed to make it go so I rarely drive at 70 now just to stop it happening. When it first occured, I was able to drop to 70 and it would go, but now I have to go to 50 which is very dangerous to do on the motorway!
I would record the sound and upload it, but I just don't know when it will happen or for how long.
Has anyone else come across this? If you need more onomatapeia, let me know

Will have a look at the wheel bearing but I'm not so sure.
Then again, I don't know how they work so it's like me self-diagnosing myself with something then telling the Dr :s
Edit: Also, thanks for the reply!

there's an easy solution to this then, take it to a garage and get them to look at it.
